AI in this role
About this Role :
Analysts create must-have insights for our clients through published research and client interaction. You will meet with clients every day: on the phone, in a videoconference, from the stage at a Gartner event, or face-to-face during a sales support visit. In every interaction, you will help clients overcome their challenges and perform better.
As part of Gartner’s Emerging Market Dynamics Group, you will equip leaders across the semiconductor and Physical AI ecosystems with indispensable insights, advice, and tools to achieve their mission-critical priorities and build the successful organizations of tomorrow. You will own the authoritative quantitative view of the MCUs, sensors and edge AI SoCs enabling Physical AI and convert system adoption, semiconductor content and architecture shifts into decision-useful forecasts, market shares and competitive intelligence.
What You’ll do:
- Develop and maintain global forecasts for MCUs, AI-enabled MCUs, edge AI SoCs, embedded AI accelerators and selected sensor semiconductor markets, including units, revenue, ASPs and vendor market share.
- Quantify semiconductor demand across industrial automation, robotics, automotive, drones, machine vision, smart cameras, intelligent edge systems and other major Physical AI applications.
- Build bottom-up semiconductor-content models linking Physical AI system shipments to MCU, edge processor, sensor, memory, connectivity and power-semiconductor content.
- Develop adoption and penetration models distinguishing total device shipments, AI-capable devices, devices actively running AI workloads and Physical AI deployments.
- Track MCU and embedded processor transitions including 32-bit MCUs, MCU + NPU architectures, real-time processors and heterogeneous CPU/GPU/NPU SoCs.
- Track perception and sensing semiconductor markets including CMOS image sensors, MEMS/IMUs, time-of-flight/depth sensing, radar semiconductor content, intelligent sensors and sensor-fusion processors.
- Analyze architecture transitions, design wins, ASP/content growth, competitive positioning and vendor market-share shifts driven by edge AI and Physical AI adoption.
- Maintain quarterly market trackers, forecast models, source databases, vendor-share analysis and scenario models.
- Provide evidence-based written responses and support VP/market-intelligence-level client conversations.
- Partner with analysts covering robotics, automotive, AI accelerators, foundry, advanced packaging, memory, networking and power semiconductors to quantify cross-market dependencies.
- Identify early indicators that could invalidate the current forecast and proactively revise assumptions and outlooks.
- Actively participate in appropriate Gartner global research communities for formal and in-formal knowledge sharing sessions.
Core Quantitative Coverage :
You are capable of modeling and forecasting:
- MCUs / Edge AI SoCs: units, revenue, ASPs, vendor market share, architecture mix, end-market mix, AI-enabled penetration, TOPS/device, power envelope and adoption of MCU + NPU and heterogeneous CPU/GPU/NPU architectures.
- Sensors / Physical AI Content: units, revenue, ASPs, vendor share and application penetration for relevant perception sensors, plus semiconductor content per robot, drone, autonomous machine, smart camera and other Physical AI system.
- Research Boundaries: This role owns the quantitative semiconductor-market truth layer for Physical AI, focused on MCUs, sensors and edge AI processors. It does not own robotics or automotive system strategy, AI software/platform strategy, data-center accelerators, foundry, advanced packaging, memory, networking systems or power-semiconductor markets. However, the analyst must quantify how developments in these adjacent markets affect Physical AI semiconductor demand, content and competitive dynamics.
Job Requirements :
What you will need
- Educational Qualification:
- BE/BTech from Grade A engineering colleges with specialization in Electronics, or Semiconductors, or software engineering.
- Graduate + MBA (Marketing or Ops) from leading A & B-schools is desirable.
- Work experience:
- 5-7+ years minimum experience in semiconductor market intelligence, MCU/embedded processors, sensors, edge AI, product planning, business planning, forecasting or industry research.
- Domain knowledge/Business Acumen:
- Strong expertise in one or more of MCUs, embedded processors, sensors or edge AI SoCs, with the ability to develop credible quantitative coverage across the broader Physical AI semiconductor stack.
- Strong understanding of embedded and edge AI architectures, end-market demand, semiconductor content, technology transitions and competitive dynamics.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain quantitative market models, market-share analysis and forecasts.
- Experience with semiconductor vendors, market-research firms, industrial/robotics ecosystems, automotive suppliers or relevant electronics supply-chain organizations preferred.
- Awareness of the major issues across the IT, technology, semiconductor and electronics industry affecting embedded AI and Physical AI markets, and an eagerness to learn more.
- MS Office Tools:
- Ability to design, develop and maintain large Excel models for market share analysis and forecasting, and strong working knowledge of other MS Office tools such as Word and Power Point for writing and presenting analysis.
- Project management skills:
- Ability to manage time, keep projects on schedule and resolve issues and deliver all client deliverables in a timely manner.
- Communication skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex market data into clear implications.
- Written: A strong writing ability is mandatory. Writing efforts will require stating/staking positions, justifying those positions with facts and providing actionable analysis and recommendations.
- Oral: Skills to converse on telephone, face to face, and on-stage, with the ability to explain complex concepts concisely.
- Problem Solving:
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to think creatively, independently, and efficiently to diagnose and contextualize issues, exhibit critical-thinking and problem-solving capabilities, including working on estimation problems and provide insightful and original analysis.
- Interpersonal skills:
- Ability to communicate, engage, and develop cordial professional relationships with analysts, key initiative leaders, team managers, and clients with a compelling and enthusiastic attitude that drives clients to action and guides them to success.
- Strong client presence and ability to relate to a variety of company and personality types is a must - ability to represent Gartner research, methodology and strategies at multiple levels (Board, C-Level, Business Unit and Operational) and multiple client organization types (End User Client, Investors, Technology and Service Providers, Resellers, Channel Partners).
- Ability to organize effectively, drive for results, collaborate productively, coach and develop colleagues where required – provide constructive feedback to peers as well as be receptive to feedback from peers.
- Complete ownership mindset, professional maturity and intellectual curiosity, ability to embrace change and act with integrity, and follow internal processes and policies, including, HR, IT and Finance.
