AI in this role
Build core modular payments infrastructure, tokenisation, and developer-facing APIs as a Senior Product Engineer at Evervault.
About Evervault
Evervault offers modular payments infrastructure for companies building their own payments stack. We keep raw card data off your systems, cut PCI compliance work, improve acceptance, mitigate fraud and chargebacks and decrease your cost of payments, so you keep full control. Trusted by Ramp, Rippling, Modern Treasury and Overwolf; Series B, led by Ribbit Capital.
Role Overview
We’re hiring a Senior/Staff Product Engineer for our Cards team in London. You’ll own problems end-to-end across our payments infrastructure: tokenisation, card network integrations, 3DS and dispute management. That runs from customer conversations, through API design, to production code and measuring whether it worked. You’ll lead by example: mentoring, raising the bar and owning technical direction, staying hands-on the whole time.
What You’ll Be Doing
Building core payments infrastructure, including tokenisation, network integrations, 3DS and dispute management
Designing developer-facing APIs, SDKs and primitives that developers enjoy using
Building high-throughput, distributed systems that handle millions of card transactions
Working directly with customers to understand their payment stacks, debug integrations and shape the roadmap
Shipping across the stack: backend services, APIs, UI components and documentation
Setting technical direction and mentoring engineers on the team
Requirements
6+ years of engineering experience, including 2–4+ recent years in at least one of: payments infrastructure or fintech, developer tooling, or design-first products
Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, networking and infrastructure, beyond just frameworks
Product-minded: you think about the developer experience of every API you design and judge your work by its impact on users
Comfortable explaining complex technical decisions to non-technical people and working in front of customers
Founder-like ownership: you take problems to completion without waiting to be told what to do
Nice to Have
Rust and TypeScript experience (we care more about engineering ability than our exact stack)
Knowledge of card payments: networks, tokenisation, 3DS or PCI DSS
This Might Not Be for You If…
You want to build from a spec: you’ll be expected to find and define the problem yourself
You want to manage people soon: this is primarily a Senior IC role with technical leadership rather than people leadership
You prefer to stay in one layer of the stack: you’ll move between backend, APIs, UI and docs
You’d rather avoid customers: you’ll be on calls and debugging integrations with them
You want to work fully remotely: we’re in our Shoreditch office Tuesday to Thursday

Skills and AI tools this role asks for
Questions you could be asked
- What's a project where you used Rust hands-on?
- Walk me through how you've used TypeScript in your day-to-day work.
- What are the limits of API that you've run into, and how did you work around them?
Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: Rust, TypeScript, and API. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
