About the Role at Nscale
We're hiring a Senior Manager, Developer Platforms to build the function that owns how Nscale's engineers ship software: the developer toolchain, CI/CD, code quality standards, AI coding tools and the metrics that track them.
Reporting to the SVP of Corporate Engineering, you'll be the dedicated owner across all engineering teams, partnering with engineering, security and compliance. This is a hands-on build role: you'll establish the tooling and governance model from scratch, then build the business case to hire and lead a Developer Platforms team as the scope grows.
Your work will give engineers the tools and standards to move quickly, alongside the access controls and operating guardrails to use agentic tools while managing security and audit risks.
What you'll be doing
Developer Toolchain and Code Quality
- Own the developer toolchain, including source control, CI/CD, build and test infrastructure, development environments, and integrations with issue tracking and observability tools.
- Set code review, testing and CI standards across engineering, and build the test infrastructure to support them.
- Manage developer tooling vendors and spend.
AI Tooling and Governance
- Lead adoption of AI coding agents and AI review and testing tools, adapting the tooling and policies based on how engineers actually work.
- Design and implement the access and governance model for agentic coding tools: which repositories and environments agents can access, which actions require human approval, how actions are logged and attributed, and how these controls map to compliance frameworks.
- Define and enforce guardrails for autonomous agents in production-adjacent systems, including least-privilege access, audit trails, rollback paths and incident response when an agent takes an unintended action.
Measurement and Team Building
- Track software delivery, developer experience and AI usage through metrics such as DORA and developer surveys, and use what you learn to set priorities.
- Build the business case for a Developer Platforms team as the scope grows.
- Hire and lead the Developer Platforms team.
KPIs
- Software delivery performance (DORA metrics)
- Developer experience (developer survey results)
- AI coding-tool usage
About You
- You have 8+ years of experience in platform, DevOps, infrastructure or developer-productivity engineering, including experience leading people.
- You've owned CI/CD and source control for a sizable engineering organisation and remain hands-on.
- You've rolled out and governed AI coding tools for a team or company, such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar tools.
- You have working knowledge of access control, audit logging and compliance frameworks, and can translate security and compliance requirements into practical engineering guardrails.
- You've raised code quality and testing standards across multiple teams.
- You've built something from scratch without an existing team or playbook, working through an ambiguous mandate.
- You build effective partnerships across engineering, security and compliance, and can make progress through influence as well as authority.

Skills and AI tools this role asks for
Questions you could be asked
- How do you decide when an AI agent can act on its own versus asking for approval first?
- Walk me through how you've used OpenAI in your day-to-day work.
- What are the limits of Claude that you've run into, and how did you work around them?
- What's a project where you used Copilot hands-on?
- Walk me through how you've used Cursor in your day-to-day work.
Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: AI agents, OpenAI, Claude, Copilot, and Cursor. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
- Put the AI tool in a bullet point about what you did, not just in a skills list. This role treats it as a required part of the job.
