Senior Specialist Field Engineer - Kubernetes
CoreWeave is hiring a Senior Specialist Field Engineer - Kubernetes for a remote role open to applicants in United States. It pays $182k-$242k a year and Level rates it ; you can apply on Level.
AI in this role
Design and optimize massive GPU-based Kubernetes clusters for AI training and inference workloads as a field engineer.
About the role:
CoreWeave runs some of the largest GPU-based Kubernetes clusters, for the most sophisticated users, in the world. As a Senior Specialist Field Engineer for Kubernetes, you'll help customers run training and inference on those clusters, and get the most out of the control plane, the scheduler, and the operators that run them. You'll work closely with the product and engineering teams, and what you learn in the field will help shape what they build.
In this role, you will:
- Design Kubernetes architectures for complex customers.
- Troubleshoot problems that span the API server, etcd, the scheduler, the kubelet, the container runtime, the CNI, the network, and storage, across clusters with thousands of GPU nodes.
- Find where the product falls short for real workloads and help the engineering teams fill those gaps.
- Lead customer technical overviews, proofs of concept, and customer workshops, with occasional travel
Who You Are:
- B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years building or operating large-scale distributed systems, as a platform, systems, or software engineer, or in a deeply technical Kubernetes-focused field role.
- Have written and run Kubernetes operators or controllers in production, in Go or Rust, using CRDs to extend the API.
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes internals: the API server, etcd, the scheduler, and the various controllers, and how they work together.
- Solid working knowledge of admission control and policy (validating and mutating webhooks, Kyverno or similar), RBAC, and ServiceAccounts.
- Hands-on experience with Helm, GitOps delivery (Argo CD or Flux), and observability with Prometheus and OpenTelemetry.
- Able to explain technical problems clearly to engineers and executives, building trust with customers.
Preferred:
- GPU scheduling and resource management: device plugins, topology-aware scheduling, MIG and MPS, and InfiniBand/RDMA device configuration.
- Scaling the control plane: API server request lifecycle, etcd membership, upgrades, and backups, at thousands of nodes.
- Experience with Slurm or other batch schedulers for AI training.
- Image and artifact supply chain security: signing, provenance, and container runtime least privilege.
- Contributions to Kubernetes or CNCF projects, or published work on Kubernetes internals or operator design.
You'll fit here if...
- You'd rather read the controller source than guess why it reconciled.
- You're comfortable saying "I don't know yet," and then you go find out.
- You like working on a hard problem alongside the customer and the engineering team, and you share the credit.
Wondering if you're a good fit?
We believe in investing in our people, and value candidates who bring their own experiences to our teams - even if you aren't a 100% skill or experience match. If some of this describes you, we'd love to talk.

Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: Distributed Systems, Cloud Infrastructure, GPU Scheduling, Troubleshooting, and Kubernetes. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
- Lead with what you built, trained or shipped. This role is judged on the AI system itself, not the tools around it.
