Senior Staff Technical Lead Manager, Driver Validation

The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Commercialization Engineering is building out the tools and systems that power Waymo’s commercial offering. 

Driver Validation sits directly on the critical path for Waymo's growth, enabling the safe and predictable launch of new cities and vehicle platforms. The core challenge is building a generalized resource allocation and management ecosystem (Carplan, SOUL, Scout, CATS) that optimizes the matching of vehicle supply and human operators with complex data collection demand. This includes automating shift generation, maximizing 'effective mile' yield during expansions, and reducing manual operational overhead to drive non-linear scale in our unit economics. We are looking for a strong TLM who can work with our partners and grow a high-performing software organization in Warsaw to support this core pillar of Waymo’s business.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to the Director of Engineering.

You will:

• Lead a growing team of engineers and TLMs to build Waymo’s Driver Setup and Validation systems.
• Design and implement core business logic determining validation data collection needs, resource and shift planning, automated vehicle and driver assignments, and routing for scouting missions.
• Design and implement robust full-stack systems and tools that support Waymo’s validation workflows, mapping operations, and Autonomous Specialist mileage collection.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Operations, Data Science, and other stakeholders to solve critical business needs and ensure the Waymo Driver is safe and capable before commercial launch.

You have:

• BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• 8+ years of experience in software development
• 5+ years of people management experience
• Experience as manager-of-managers and shaping an organization
• Technical leadership experience

We prefer:

• 5+ years of experience with C++
• MS in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
• Experience in high growth / startup environments
• Domain knowledge across the transportation, logistics, and/or autonomous vehicle industries
• Domain knowledge in robotics, embedded systems
