AI in this role
Design, develop, and maintain distributed systems powering AWS Lambda's event-driven architecture and integrations.
We are part of AWS Lambda team who is making it easier for developers to build new applications or extend existing systems using serverless technology, by seamlessly integrating services such as DynamoDB, Kinesis, S3, Kafka, ActiveMQ and SQS as "Lambda Event Sources". Our growing team in Seattle has an opening for an experienced engineer who can help us to bring better experience to customers for building data driven applications.
Key job responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain distributed systems that power AWS Lambda's event-driven architecture — connecting Lambda to streaming and messaging services like Kafka, SQS, DynamoDB Streams, and Kinesis
Build and improve scalable, multi-tenant platforms that process billions of events daily for millions of AWS customers
Write clean, well-tested code with high operational standards — you'll own what you build, from design through deployment and production operations
Drive features end-to-end: define technical approach, navigate cross-team dependencies, and deliver with high quality from design through multi-region rollout
Identify and solve ambiguous problems — propose solutions, evaluate tradeoffs, and make sound technical decisions with increasing independence
Participate in on-call rotations, lead operational reviews, and raise the bar on production reliability for your team's services
Contribute to system design, mentor junior engineers, and influence team best practices through code reviews and design discussions
Work across the full development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring
A day in the life
Morning: you check dashboards for your team's services — systems processing millions of customer events in real time. An alarm fires; you investigate, find the root cause, roll back, and update the runbook.
Mid-morning: you write code — a new feature that improves how the system scales under load. You push a code review and get sharp feedback from a senior engineer that makes the design better.
Afternoon: you join a cross-team design discussion, review a teammate's code (catching a subtle bug), and deploy your own change across multiple regions.
Your code runs infrastructure millions of developers depend on. You own real problems end-to-end, work with experienced mentors, and grow fast. No two days are the same.
About the team
We're a high-impact team within AWS Lambda responsible for event-driven architecture — the systems that connect Lambda to streaming and messaging services like Kafka, SQS, Kinesis, and DynamoDB Streams. Our platform processes billions of events daily for millions of customers worldwide. We value ownership, mentorship, and shipping quality software. Engineers here have real autonomy — you'll own features end-to-end and see your work matter at scale. We support each other's growth, invest in operational excellence, and believe the best ideas can come from anyone on the team.
