Do you want to build the systems that power pricing for millions of business customers — and reinvent how those systems get built at the same time? We're an engineering team inside Amazon Business, and we own the platform behind how business pricing works: the services that decide, calculate, and deliver the right price at scale.

As a Software Development Engineer on this team, you'll own real problems end to end. You'll design and build distributed backend services on AWS, make them faster and more reliable, and take on the harder challenge underneath all of it — keeping a large, always-on platform efficient and cost-effective as it grows. You won't just pick up tickets; you'll take ambiguous problems, shape the approach, and drive them from design through to production.

What makes this role different is that we're also rethinking how we engineer. We're early adopters of AI-native development — building AI tools, chat bots, and agentic workflows that make our whole team faster and our operations more reliable. You'll get to use these tools daily, and you'll help build them. It's a rare mix: deep systems ownership on one side, and a genuine mandate to shape the future of software development on the other.

You'll work closely with engineers, product managers, and partner teams across regions, review and raise the bar on each other's work, and mentor others as you grow. Key job responsibilities
* You will participate in the full development cycle, end-to-end, from design, implementation, and testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance.

* You will evaluate and make decisions around the use of new or existing technologies and tools, and you’ll coach and mentor junior development engineers.

* You will directly work with Senior Engineers and Principal Engineers in the org to define our architecture plans for the next three years.

* You will be driving team to make decisions on build vs re-use by collaborating with Retail and Seller Pricing teams.

* You will be responsible for setting standards and mechanisms for handling operational load.

A day in the life
Designing and reviewing architecture for scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency; writing and shipping production code across Java backend services and AWS infrastructure; building or improving AI-native developer tooling (agents, chat bots, automated workflows); reviewing teammates' CRs and design docs; and collaborating with product managers and partner teams (US/EU) during the shared afternoon working window. A balance of hands-on building, platform/architecture ownership, and applying AI to move the whole team faster.

About the team
Team Vortex is part of Amazon Business Flywheel Inputs (ABFI), based in Hyderabad. We own core platform charters behind Amazon Business pricing — responsible for scaling the architecture, improving reliability, and continuously reducing total cost of ownership. We're a delivery-focused, customer-obsessed team and an early adopter of AI-native engineering: we build and use AI tools, chat bots, and agentic workflows to raise developer productivity and operational health. Engineers here get broad ownership, real cross-team impact, and active investment in their growth.

Basic qualifications

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred qualifications

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
