Who we are
Worldline helps businesses of all shapes and sizes to accelerate their growth journey - quickly, simply, and securely. We are the innovators at the heart of the payments technology industry, shaping how the world pays and gets paid. Our technology powers the growth of millions of businesses across 5 continents. And just as we help our customers accelerate their business, we are committed to helping our people accelerate their careers. Together, we shape the evolution.
The opportunity
Join our Acquiring Global Products back-office team and help build systems that power electronic payments for merchants across the globe. We process millions of transactions every single day – and we're looking for engineers who want to make a real impact on a large-scale, mission-critical platform.
We believe in "you build it, you run it" Our teams own their services end-to-end: from analysis and design, through implementation and testing, all the way to operation and support. That ownership comes with real responsibility – including participation in on-call / stand-by shifts, which are an integral part of the role, not an optional add-on.
We give our engineers a lot of trust and freedom, and we expect them to inspire our customers – and us – with their passion. Whether you've got a few years under your belt or you're ready to take the next step in your career, you'll find plenty of room to grow here.
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Build and evolve a very large, business-critical platform that merchants worldwide rely on every day.
- Work in an agile DevOps team that owns features across the full lifecycle: analysis, design, implementation, functional testing, deployment, operation, and support.
- Develop robust backend solutions using Java and Spring (Boot) as your daily toolkit.
- Work with Oracle databases (SQL / PL-SQL) as a core part of our application landscape.
- Operate in a hybrid infrastructure: a heavily containerized world (think Podman & friends) running alongside bare-metal systems.
- Ship with confidence using modern CI/CD (e.g., GitLab CI) and infrastructure automation (e.g., Ansible).
- Leverage AI smartly and responsibly – we actively encourage using tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to write better code faster, improve quality, and free up time for the problems that really matter. This is something we live, not just talk about.
- Take part in on-call / stand-by rotation to keep the systems you build healthy and running.
Who are we looking for
We look for people who want to drive positive changes, step up, and grow – people with passion, a can-do attitude, and a genuine hunger to learn. In practice, this means:
- Genuine passion for software development
- Some professional experience building software – you don't need to be a senior, but you should be comfortable contributing to real-world systems
- Working knowledge of Java and Spring (Boot) (or a strong willingness to grow into it)
- Experience with database development, ideally Oracle SQL / PL-SQL
- Familiarity with containers and an openness to bare-metal environments
- A smart, curious approach to AI tooling in everyday development
- Practical experience with version control (Git preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field – or equivalent practical experience
- Fluent German and English skills, written and spoken
- Customer-oriented, independent, flexible, creative, and a pragmatic team player
- Willingness and availability for 24/7 on-call duty as a core part of the role
Location & Eligibility
This position is based in Zurich, Switzerland. A valid Swiss work permit is required. Only direct applications will be considered; applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.
