Specialty Care Patient Engagement Enablement Team Lead

AI in this role

Specialty Care Patient Engagement helps patients and caregivers understand their disease, have informed conversations with their healthcare providers about treatment options, and stay appropriately on therapy. This means engaging patients as appropriate throughout their treatment journey — from diagnosis and treatment initiation through ongoing management — with support tailored to what they need at each stage. Patient Engagement supports patients across Sickle Cell Disease, Alopecia Areata, ATTR-CM, Immunoglobulin (Ig) therapies, and Hemophilia, conditions that carry distinct clinical, emotional, and access challenges. This role sits at the intersection of patient needs and enablement strategy, with the opportunity to raise the bar for how Patient Engagement is equipped — through GTM Excellence, digital, AI, and data capabilities — to support patients across specialty care.

Why This Role Matters

The Patient Engagement Enablement Team Lead is responsible for enabling Patient Engagement to execute with excellence, today and as the business evolves — ensuring the team has the capabilities, training, GTM Excellence strategy, digital capabilities, metrics, data, and reporting it needs to keep pace with evolving patient needs. This person leads the Patient Engagement Enablement Team and reports to the Specialty Care Patient Solutions Strategy and Enablement Lead.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Maintain close partnership with Patient Engagement leadership to understand evolving strategy and priorities, and translate that understanding into clear direction the Enablement Team can pull through in its work
  • Create a high-performing organization through talent planning, career development, and performance management, including PX-related processes such as hiring, year-end reviews, compensation, and diversity initiatives
  • Build, lead, and develop an enablement team, ensuring all pieces of enablement work in harmony so their combined effect is executional excellence for field and program teams
  • Ensure Patient Engagement field teams have the capabilities they need — tools, content, training, and technology — to engage patients, caregivers and key stakeholders effectively, refining those capabilities based on ongoing field feedback
  • Support Patient Engagement leaders with communication strategy and change management for major initiatives, organizational shifts, and evolving ways of working

Go-To-Market Excellence Leadership

  • Provide oversight of the GTM Excellence Director's strategy and execution, ensuring the function runs well-run MLR/RC cycles that produce the resources the field needs, while also maintaining sound targeting and territory models and disciplined program governance
  • Ensure GTM Excellence strategy and tactics are aligned to each program's current lifecycle stage — pre-launch, launch, growth, or maturity — so enablement support fits what the program actually needs right now
  • Ensure Go-To-Market efforts, deliverables, and tactics are launched on time, holding the team accountable to milestones and escalating early when timelines are at risk

Digital Capabilities & AI Strategy

  • Partner with direct team member(s) accountable for digital capabilities/technology and for AI strategy, ensuring their roadmaps are ambitious, well-sequenced, and grounded in Patient Engagement's actual needs
  • Oversee the digital solutions that power Patient Engagement execution — including platforms like Polaris, Pharmlogic dashboards, along with other field and patient-facing tools — ensuring they're well-maintained, adopted, and evolved based on user needs
  • Lead the Enablement Team's engagement with cross-functional stakeholders on AI strategy within Patient Engagement — identifying where AI can meaningfully improve the patient, key stakeholder and field experience — and ensure the resulting roadmap is coherent, prioritized, and resourced appropriately
  • Ensure digital and AI capabilities launch on time, and establish feedback loops with the field so capabilities are continuously optimized based on real-world use

Metrics, Measurement, Data & Reporting

  • Partner with the team member(s) accountable for data, reporting, measurement, and metrics, serving as a thought partner and aligning on approach; champion a strong data and analytics discipline and coach the team so they can independently generate and apply data-driven insights
  • Ensure the team defines and maintains KPIs, dashboards, and performance reporting that are fit for purpose and consistently defined across Patient Engagement programs, partnering with Patient Engagement leadership, IIS, and Enablement leadership
  • Review and stress-test the team's analyses and insights before they inform strategic decisions, and ensure the team's dashboard and reporting requirements track targeting effectiveness, channel performance, and program productivity
  • Ensure the team reports out on an agreed-upon cadence, delivering not just the data but the insight behind it — what it means and what to do about it — to Patient Engagement and Patient Solutions leadership

Cross-Functional Enablement & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead the Enablement Team's work with cross-functional partners (brand/marketing, Patient Solutions Enablement, IIS, Digital, GCET (Global Customer Engagement Training), and others) to identify key themes and lead initiatives/projects needed to advance productivity, efficiency, and results
  • Accelerate Patient Engagement ways of working with other Patient Solutions and CFC teams to break down silos, streamline hand-offs, and create a more connected, patient-centric operating model
  • Identify and prioritize the right continuous improvement projects, processes, and resources, working with key stakeholders to advance productivity and support the strategy and execution of operating plans
  • Support the Enablement Team's discussions with GCET to ensure training is fit for purpose, and maintain a clear roadmap for training plans so field and program teams are equipped as new capabilities roll out

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • 8+ years of combined pharmaceutical or biotech experience spanning Patient Engagement, enablement/operations, patient or consumer marketing, and field enablement
  • Previous people leadership experience, with a track record of leading a high-performing organization
  • Track record of leading enablement functions (e.g., Patient Solutions enablement, sales enablement, or KAM enablement) that build capabilities driving field and program execution
  • Experience building launch plans and powering successful product and/or team launches from planning through execution
  • Experience leading in matrix organizations, including leading without authority, and the ability to manage both direct and indirect reports to create business impact
  • Strong data, analytics, and reporting acumen, and experience shaping or deploying AI-enabled tools or digital capabilities in a commercial or patient engagement context
  • Ability to influence key stakeholders internally and externally; forward-looking and results-oriented, with effective planning, prioritization, and organizational project skills
  • Strong, proven project management skills, demonstrating the ability to deliver multiple time-horizon-focused projects simultaneously in the short term and long term
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including experience supporting leaders with communication strategy and change management for large-scale initiatives
  • Strong executive presence and presentation skills, with experience communicating to senior leadership and cross-functional audiences
  • Good judgment and high ethics are a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Headquarters knowledge with proven experience working across cross-functional HQ departments, teams, and business units
  • Experience leading distributed, cross-disciplinary teams (e.g., digital, data, training) toward a shared strategic outcome
  • Experience shaping strategy for specialty care patient engagement, with an understanding of the distinct clinical, emotional, and access dynamics these populations face
  • Advanced degree preferred

What Success Looks Like

  • Field teams are equipped with the capabilities, tools, resources, targeting, training, and data they need to execute with excellence and provide the appropriate level of support for patients
  • Patient Engagement KPIs and measurements of success are consistently met or exceeded, with clear visibility into performance across the portfolio
  • A high-performing, well-developed enablement team with clear growth paths and reduced key-person risk
  • Digital, AI, and data capabilities are built and deployed in service of better field execution, trusted and broadly adopted because they help teams provide fit-for-purpose education to patients
