Job Description

Role Summary:
The Senior Director, Software Engineering leads the Data Experience, Feeds, and Reporting Development team and combines strategic planning with hands-on execution to advance the commercial platform’s vision. This role is responsible for ensuring the creation of high-quality products and features from initial concept through final deployment. The Sr. Director is expected to drive innovation, adaptability, and readiness to respond to evolving team requirements, while maintaining accountability for release deployments and post-deployment support.

All roles require digital fluency, including the ability to work with emerging technologies such as Generative AI tools (such as LLMs, Claude Code, and Codex.) to support everyday work.

Primary responsibilities for this role will include:

• Collaborate with product, SRE and Client Services teams to drive the Business and technical roadmap.
• Accurately scope efforts, identify risks, and communicate trade-offs with team members and stakeholders, ensuring the timely delivery of assigned initiatives within an agile team setting.
• Deliver high-quality products and features, managing the process from idea to final delivery, including design, development, testing, and release deployment.
• Bring in the best architecture and build highly available and scalable applications. Participate in design and code review sessions as appropriate to ensure the quality of work in accordance with development standards
• Lead the development and testing of automation frameworks and contribute to core product code.
• Communicate status updates, issues, and potential risks promptly and accurately.
• Identify opportunities for future enhancements and refinements to standards, best practices, and development methodologies

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 12+ years of relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree OR 15+ years of relevant work experience.
• Experience in leading software engineering teams in the development and delivery of complex applications.
• Experience in managing end-to-end product lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
• Experience in agile methodologies and continuous integration practices.
• Experience in risk assessment, effort scoping, and stakeholder communication.
• Experience in automation frameworks and core product code contribution.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 15 or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience.
• Experience in driving innovation and adaptability within engineering teams.
• Experience in post-deployment support and release management.
• Experience in data governance and system infrastructure.
• Experience in communicating technical status and risks to diverse stakeholders
• Expertise in large-scale data platforms and distributed systems, including batch, streaming, and in-memory processing, with high availability, low latency, and strong data consistency.
• Proficiency in Java or Python and technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Flink, MapReduce, REST, and gRPC, with experience designing solutions for continuous integration and delivery.
• Experience developing proper metrics instrumentation in software components, to help facilitate real-time and remote troubleshooting/performance monitoring.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with effective communication (both written and verbal) skills and the ability to present complex ideas in a clear & concise way, to different audiences. A team player with good work ethics.
• A background in the payment domain is a plus.
