Position Summary
The role serves as the commercial Brand Lead for MASH/ALD assets and as the primary U.S. commercial authority for the broader Hepatology/Immunology pipeline and portfolio. The role has end-to-end accountability for pipeline strategy from early development through launch readiness and lifecycle management. The role owns and shapes the commercial strategy for MASH/ALD assets as they progress through development toward potential commercialization. It also owns the commercial vision and strategic framework that guide investment decisions, stage-gate recommendations, and commercialization planning for the broader Hepatology/Immunology portfolio, ensuring the U.S. customer and commercial perspective is authoritatively represented across governance forums and global decisions.
The role also builds the commercial foundation for other pipeline assets before a dedicated brand team is in place, establishing positioning hypotheses, segmentation frameworks, and go-to-market approaches. For MASH/ALD specifically, this role serves as the commercial and strategic lead for the asset today and is expected to evolve into the full Brand Lead role as the asset advances through key milestones and, if approved, toward launch. The scope of leadership is expected to grow as commercialization planning, launch readiness, and cross-functional team leadership requirements increase.
Key Responsibilities:
Pipeline Strategy and Commercial Accountability
- Serve as the commercial and Brand Lead for MASH/ALD assets, owning and shaping the commercial strategy and leading cross-functional commercial planning and launch-readiness activities as the assets progress through development toward potential commercialization.
- Own U.S. pipeline and portfolio strategy for Hepatology/Immunology assets, establishing the commercial vision and prioritization logic that guide investment and launch-readiness decisions from Phase 2 through Local Operating Company (LOC) activation.
- Define and deliver, alongside the Medicines Commercialization Team (MCT) and Integrated Brand Commercialization Teams (IBCT), U.S. market analyses, competitive assessments, and commercial assumptions, informed by Medical-owned clinical development plans, health outcomes strategies, and financial valuations for Hepatology/Immunology pipeline assets.
- Serve as the single point of accountability for U.S. commercial input at early stage-gates, representing the voice of U.S. HCPs, patients, and payers in development decisions.
- Build and own the pre-launch commercial foundation for priority Hepatology/Immunology pipeline assets, including input to the target product profile (TPP), positioning hypotheses, customer segmentation frameworks, and initial value proposition development, ensuring each brand is commercially grounded well in advance of launch.
- Deliver stage-gate recommendations to global teams for Phase 2, 2b, and 3 decisions, clearly articulating the U.S. commercial opportunity, risk, and go/no-go rationale.
- Establish and evolve a long-range portfolio vision for Hepatology/Immunology, including asset prioritization, sequencing, and strategic planning to support future pipeline opportunities.
Portfolio Strategy, Insights, and Market Understanding
- Lead U.S. portfolio and lifecycle strategy across in-line and pipeline Hepatology/Immunology assets, ensuring consistency across brand strategy, commercial objectives, and Medical-owned strategy, and informing resource allocation and investment choices at the portfolio level.
- Develop market maps for the current and future Hepatology/Immunology portfolio, accounting for customer and patient needs, financial impacts, and the evolving healthcare landscape.
- Create and implement portfolio strategies in partnership with global counterparts, including U.S.-specific initiatives as needed, that account for multiple customer specialties, indications, and opportunities for indication expansion and lifecycle extension.
- Translate commercial and environmental assessments into forward-looking insights on how patient, marketplace, and customer needs may evolve, and ensure these perspectives are reflected in global strategy and brand-level planning.
- Leverage insights from in-line brand performance, customer experience, external experts, and competitive trends to inform portfolio strategy, indication prioritization, and lifecycle management across Hepatology and Immunology.
- Maintain an evolving perspective on reimbursement trends and market access dynamics to inform pipeline, commercial, and portfolio strategy.
Governance, U.S. Commercial Authority, and Business Partnership
- Develop and maintain deep expertise in the brand narrative, disease landscape, competitive dynamics, and customer segments for priority assets, ensuring continuity of strategic thinking from pipeline through launch and lifecycle management.
- Work alongside U.S. Health Outcomes, Medical Affairs, and Market Access to maintain a working command of the clinical, health outcomes, and economic evidence supporting brand value positioning and early payer strategy for Hepatology/Immunology medicines.
- Evaluate and recommend innovative go-to-market models for Hepatology/Immunology medicines, including differentiated approaches to customer engagement, channel strategy, and P&L optimization.
- Serve as the primary U.S. commercial authority at global governance forums, including the Forecast Review Committee (FRC), Portfolio Investment Board (PIB), and relevant stage-gate committees. Represent the U.S. commercial perspective with confidence and analytical rigor, with increasing accountability for MASH/ALD-specific commercial and launch-readiness decisions as the assets approach key milestones.
- Function as a delegated U.S. commercial decision-maker and strategic advisor to the Marketing VP for pipeline- and portfolio-related decisions, ensuring recommendations are grounded in U.S. market realities and are commercially sound.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with strategy and business unit leadership to ensure consistent U.S. input into global portfolio and pipeline decisions.
- Evaluate business development opportunities relevant to the U.S. Hepatology/Immunology portfolio and provide commercially grounded recommendations based on Business Unit strategy.
Financial and Operational Management
- Own the pipeline and portfolio strategy budget, including market research, competitive intelligence, and pipeline analytics as needed, with accountability for investment prioritization and efficient resource deployment consistent with business priorities.
- Collaborate with Forecasting & Finance to ensure an accurate outlook for U.S. Hepatology/Immunology launches, develop financial assumptions for pipeline assets, and identify additional value opportunities across the portfolio.
