About the Role:

This role is part of Visa’s Cloud Platform team and would be responsible to build and maintain the platform automation and services that thousands of engineers depend on to provision, configure, secure, and operate their environments.

You will own work end to end. Alongside subject matter experts, you will shape what gets built, then take it through design, implementation, testing, and signoff. Generative AI is central to how this team operates, shaping how we write, review, test, and document code, and increasingly forming part of what we ship.

This position is for someone who loves coding, scripting, and automation in general, and who enjoys solving challenging problems in complex, real world infrastructure.

Role Summary:

You will spend most of your time on platform automation and configuration management engineering, building reusable automation content that runs across large fleets of systems. Alongside that, you will contribute across the full stack of the platform services that expose this automation to users, covering backend APIs and microservices as well as the front end applications built on top of them.

We are looking for a self-motivated Senior Software Engineer with strong software development fundamentals and hands on expertise in scripting and coding. The role requires strong full stack engineering capability combined with experience with GenAI tools, orchestration frameworks, prompt engineering, and agent based architectures. You are expected to deliver consistently, improve the codebase and systems you work on, and write everything with production readiness in mind. All code must adhere to Visa's security standards and be written to be maintained by others

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, test and maintain high-quality code for Visa's Cloud Platform team. Coding must adhere to all security standards and should be easily maintainable.
• Develop APIs, microservices, and reusable platform components that other engineering teams build on.
• Build and maintain front end and backend functionality for the platform services you own.
• Use Generative AI tools as everyday development companions across coding, testing, review, and documentation, drawing on Visa's portfolio of AI models, tools, and experimentation platforms.
• Design and implement AI agents capable of autonomous task execution and workflow orchestration.
• Apply prompt engineering and agent orchestration techniques to improve team engineering efficiency, and share what works with the wider team.
• Develop and maintain automated unit and component tests.
• Contribute to design discussions and document implementation decisions where appropriate.
• Collaborate with SMEs, QA, and support teams to deliver defect free automation.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for the systems you own.
• Identify opportunities for enhancements and refinements to best practices, standards, and processes.
• Learn and adopt new skills, languages, and frameworks as the platform's needs evolve.

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualification:

• 2+ years of hands on experience building, shipping, and supporting enterprise grade Java or J2EE applications, ideally with Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and microservices, plus working knowledge of a modern frontend framework such as Angular or React.
• Strong foundation in software engineering fundamentals: clean code, object oriented design, data structures and algorithms, distributed systems, scalable application architecture, and the full software development life cycle.
• Real experience delivering software with AI assistance, using generative AI coding assistants and productivity tools such as Claude Code CLI, GitHub Copilot, and Cline for prompt engineering, code review, test generation, documentation, and routine development work.
• Experience designing agent based architectures and orchestrating agents across multi step tasks is a strong plus
• Practical exposure to Infrastructure as Code and configuration management, with Ansible or Terraform is an advantage.
• Comfort with CI-CD pipelines and the discipline around them, covering automated unit, integration, component, and regression tests, code quality gates, version control, and release automation.
• Confidence on the Unix and Linux command line, and experience operating across both Linux and Windows environments.
• A working understanding of the infrastructure that enterprise applications run on, including load balancers, storage, servers, firewalls, and networking.
• Sharp analytical and debugging instincts, with the ability to trace complex problems across application code, integrations, data, infrastructure, and AI assisted delivery workflows.
• Experience working in Agile delivery teams with genuine ownership of stories, design decisions, engineering quality, production support, and continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly, present complex ideas concisely, document designs and the trade-offs behind them, and collaborate across Product, Architecture, DevOps, QA, and Security teams.
• Curiosity and adaptability, with a proven ability to pick up new languages, frameworks, and tools quickly, and the flexibility to switch focus based on the team's priorities.
• Experience in financial services, payments, dispute processing, or other high volume, mission critical enterprise platforms is a strong plus.
