Our Team
Bloomberg's Global Sustainability Office (GSO) is responsible for the development and execution of Bloomberg's enterprise-wide sustainability strategy, program implementation, and external reporting. The GSO collaborates across the business under a robust governance structure to set comprehensive ESG-related objectives, targets and action plans that drive the business toward its global sustainability commitments.
What’s The Role?
We are seeking a strategic, commercially minded, and hands-on Sustainability Manager to lead our operational, reporting, and market-based sustainability functions. Reporting directly to the Sustainability Officer, this role operates as a "player-coach," balancing strategic leadership with direct execution while managing a dedicated 4-person team.
In this role, you will own the firm’s comprehensive Decarbonization Plan—setting reduction pathways, evaluating technical levers, and driving progress across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. You will view sustainability through a market-driven and regulatory lens while participating in climate scenario analysis and stress testing projects to build organizational resilience. Crucially, you will build strong partnerships with a broad network of internal and external stakeholders, fostering a positive environment of influence to drive momentum, while translating complex concepts into clear presentations for senior management.
We’ll Trust You To:
- Lead as a Player-Coach: Guide day-to-day execution for a dedicated 4-person team while providing mentorship, career development, and technical direction.
- Drive Enterprise Decarbonization: Own and execute the firm’s enterprise Decarbonization Plan, establishing science-aligned reduction pathways, evaluating operational levers, setting interim milestones, and tracking progress across global business activities.
- Cultivate Stakeholder Relationships: Collaborate with a wide range of internal stakeholders (Procurement, Finance, Real Estate, Legal, Risk, Facilities, IT) and external partners, creating a positive environment of influence to inspire cross-functional alignment and accelerate decarbonization strategies.
- Participate in Climate Stress Testing: Contribute to climate stress testing projects and scenario analyses to assess the resilience of the firm’s physical and operational footprint against climate transition, policy, and market risks.
- Engage Senior Leadership: Prepare and deliver executive-level presentations, strategic briefings, and decision frameworks to senior management and governance bodies to drive alignment on key sustainability investments and priorities.
- Oversee Enterprise ESG Reporting: Lead the firm's enterprise sustainability and carbon reporting processes, partnering closely with the firm's ESG Controller to ensure data integrity, robust internal controls, and audit-readiness across all public disclosures. Participate and support internal and external audits of ESG reports.
- Navigate Regulatory Compliance: Monitor, interpret, and track evolving global and regional sustainability regulations and climate disclosure mandates, translating compliance requirements into operational strategy.
- Lead Change Management: Serve as a proactive change agent by developing and executing change-management strategies that build understanding, adoption, and accountability for enterprise sustainability initiatives across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Manage Environmental Markets: Direct the firm’s engagement with environmental markets, including carbon accounting frameworks, voluntary/compliance carbon markets (VCM/CCM), and high-integrity asset procurement (e.g., carbon credits, RECs, PPAs).
- Maintain Data Infrastructure: Oversee the continuous refinement of the firm’s carbon balance sheet, GHG inventory, and sustainability data management infrastructure. Proactively work with key data providers to ensure that data quality issues are addressed to achieve reporting standards.
You’ll Need to Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related quantitative field.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in corporate sustainability, decarbonization planning, carbon markets, ESG reporting, or sustainable operations.
- Proven track record operating as a player-coach or team lead, with experience directly managing individual contributors in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated experience designing and executing enterprise Decarbonization Plans, including marginal abatement cost modeling, Scope 1-3 reduction roadmaps, and target tracking.
- Proven capability to build high-trust relationships across a wide group of stakeholders, utilizing a positive, persuasive leadership style to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Experience participating in or contributing to climate stress testing, physical/transition climate risk assessments, or scenario analysis frameworks.
- Exceptional executive presence and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to distill complex technical, regulatory, and decarbonization concepts into compelling narratives for senior leadership.
- Demonstrated experience managing enterprise sustainability reporting and collaborating directly with corporate accounting and financial reporting functions (such as an ESG Controller).
- In-depth knowledge of current and emerging global sustainability regulatory frameworks and standards (e.g., CSRD, SEC climate rules, state-level climate legislation, ISSB, TCFD, GHG Protocol).
We’d Love to See:
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Environmental Economics, Climate Finance, Law, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Prior experience presenting directly to C-suite executives, Board committees, or senior cross-functional steering groups.
- Experience with internal financial controls, third-party ESG data assurance, and external audit processes.
