AI in this role
Drive product marketing, positioning, and technical narratives for AI inference and machine learning infrastructure products.
ABOUT BASETEN
Baseten powers mission-critical inference for the world's most dynamic AI companies, like Cursor, Notion, OpenEvidence, Abridge, Clay, Gamma, and Writer. By uniting applied AI research, flexible infrastructure, and seamless developer tooling, we enable companies operating at the frontier of AI to bring cutting-edge models into production. We're growing quickly and recently raised our $1.5B Series F, led by Altimeter Capital, Conviction Partners, and Spark Capital. Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to ship AI products.
THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Technical Product Marketing Manager who can pick up any Baseten product and explain it clearly to the people who buy it. Baseten sells dedicated inference, Model APIs, training and post-training, and the enterprise platform that ties them together. The work behind each one is the same: understand how the product works, know where it stands against the alternatives, and write about it well enough that an ML engineer trusts it and a buyer acts on it.
We’re hiring for this role across multiple product lines. You’ll work on whichever launch, narrative, or competitive gap matters most at the time, partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, and the rest of product marketing. It’s a good fit for someone who ramps on technical products quickly and wants to be the person who figures out the story.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Positioning & Technical Narrative
Own positioning and messaging for Baseten products across inference, Model APIs, training and post-training, and the core platform, written for ML engineers, platform teams, and executive buyers.
Work closely with Product and Engineering to understand architecture, tradeoffs, and roadmap, and make sure every technical claim is accurate and backed by how the product actually behaves.
Keep product-level messaging consistent with Baseten’s platform narrative so each product story supports the others.
Write messaging that is technically credible without getting lost in implementation detail.
Launches & Go-to-Market
Build and run launch plans for new products and major capabilities, from internal enablement through external announcement.
Decide what deserves a full launch and what should ship through docs, sales enablement, or targeted customer outreach.
Create launch assets including messaging briefs, landing pages, technical blog posts, demo storylines, sales decks, one-pagers, and FAQs.
Partner with Demand Gen, Sales, Solutions, and Customer Marketing to turn product capabilities into campaigns and deal support.
Competitive & Market Insight
Track the competitive landscape across inference providers, model API companies, hyperscalers, and internal DIY platforms, including pricing, packaging, launches, and messaging.
Turn that analysis into a clear point of view on where Baseten wins and loses, and use it to sharpen positioning.
Talk to customers and sellers to understand buying criteria, objections, and deal blockers, and bring what you learn back to Product and Marketing as concrete recommendations.
Sales Enablement
Build battlecards, competitive talk tracks, objection-handling guides, and product training that sellers actually use.
Work with Sales and Solutions to find enablement gaps and close them.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
4+ years in product marketing, technical marketing, or developer marketing, with at least 2 of those years marketing to developers or technical buyers at an infrastructure, developer tools, cloud, data, or AI company.
Strong writing. You can take a dense technical topic and make it clear without oversimplifying it, and you have samples to show.
Technical fluency. You’re comfortable reading docs, asking engineers specific questions, and getting up to speed on concepts like inference, autoscaling, fine-tuning, and open- vs. closed-weight models.
Hands-on competitive analysis experience: you’ve compared products in depth, formed a view, and used it to change positioning, messaging, or how a deal was sold.
A track record of learning unfamiliar products and markets quickly and moving between them.
Experience launching technical products or capabilities, including deciding what to launch and how.
Comfortable owning both strategy and execution: landing pages, decks, one-pagers, and written content, not just frameworks.
Experience at a fast-moving startup, working with multiple stakeholders and shifting priorities.
NICE TO HAVE
Experience with AI/ML infrastructure, inference, model serving, or model training and post-training.
Experience marketing to ML engineers, platform engineers, infrastructure leaders, or technical executives.
Experience building competitive positioning against cloud providers, inference providers, model API companies, or internal platforms.
Time in an adjacent role such as solutions engineering, product management, developer relations, technical writing, or industry or equity research covering AI or infrastructure.
BENEFITS
Competitive compensation, including meaningful equity
(U.S. only) 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents
Flexible PTO policy including company wide Winter Break (our offices are closed from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day!)
Paid parental leave
Fertility and family-building stipend through Carrot
(U.S. only) Company-facilitated 401(k)
Exposure to a variety of ML startups, offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities.

Questions you could be asked
- Walk me through fine-tuning a model: what data did you use, and how did you check the result?
- Tell me about a research question you investigated. What did you find?
- Tell me about a project where product marketing was part of your work. What did you do?
- Tell me about a project where technical writing was part of your work. What did you do?
- Tell me about a project where go to market was part of your work. What did you do?
Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: Fine-tuning, AI Research, Product Marketing, Technical Writing, and Go To Market. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
- Show where AI is part of your daily process, not a one-off project. This role expects it to be a running habit.
