Technical Program Manager for Stripe Terminal, driving first and third-party in-person payment hardware and software products across cross-functional teams.
Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
Stripe Terminal helps businesses extend their online presence into the physical world. Our mission is to make it as easy for businesses to accept in-person payments as Stripe has made it to accept payments online. We’re realizing the vision of unified commerce.
Terminal provides an integrated in-person payments platform spanning software, payment processing, device fleet management, and hardware. Our hardware portfolio includes Stripe-designed readers and accessories as well as devices from third-party hardware partners. Together, these products enable businesses to build reliable, differentiated in-person payment experiences across a broad range of use cases, countries, and operating environments.
What you’ll do
As a Terminal TPM, you will become an expert on all things related to in-person payments. You’ll work with teams across Stripe to build, ship, and iterate on first-party as well as third-party hardware products in addition to advancing our work on Tap-to-Pay and beyond. You will partner closely with hardware engineering, firmware and software engineering, design, operations, logistics, partnerships, sales, finance, legal, and regional teams. Your work will require you to be in lock-step with Payments teams as well as card networks and Local Payment Method schemes, bringing unified commerce to life across our suite of devices. This is a highly cross-functional role for someone who can connect customer needs, technical constraints, business strategy, and execution across user experience, device capabilities, cost, quality, reliability, supply, and time to market.
Responsibilities
- Independently define programs across Terminal including scoping, setting objectives, defining success criteria, and influencing resource allocation to deliver outcomes
- Apply consistent prioritization and decision-making frameworks across your programs, driving high-velocity yet durable decisions that move the team forward without creating downstream debt
- Identify obstacles and risks across Terminal’s cross-functional workstreams, proactively communicate them to stakeholders, and develop plans to address and prevent their recurrence
- Represent the voice of Terminal’s consumers and merchants to all stakeholders, translating user needs into clear program objectives and ensuring engineering and product decisions remain grounded in solving real problems
- Drive clarity across all stakeholders on goals, problems, and intended outcomes, serving as the connective tissue across Terminal sub-teams and their upstream and downstream dependencies. Operate similarly across Stripe, representing the Terminal org to collaborators in peer organizations.
- Develop a strong point of view on Terminal’s product development strategy and use it to define programs with measurable outcomes, adapting them as the product and user needs evolve
- Understand the technical challenges across Terminal’s systems, payment flows, identity infrastructure, fraud and risk models, money movement, and partner closely with engineering leads to define the most effective path to delivery
Who you are
We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
- 10+ years of product management or technical program management experience, including managing programs across all phases of software development
- Proven track record of defining and executing complex programs across multiple functions in consumer-facing or payments products
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to establish strong relationships with stakeholders and senior leaders
- Proven ability to navigate ambiguity, bring rapid clarity to multi-stakeholder problems, and drive teams toward effective solutions
- Working knowledge of API design and high-level system architecture, sufficient to partner with engineering teams on program delivery
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in payments, commerce platforms, point-of-sale systems, or in-person payments.
- Experience with Card and Local Payment Method networks and schemes
- Experience managing a portfolio that includes both first-party products and third-party partner products.
- Experience with sourcing, supply-chain risk, device pricing, unit economics, and global distribution.
- Experience with payment-device certifications, local payment methods, accessibility requirements, connectivity, or regulated hardware environments.
- Experience launching products internationally or a technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
