As of October 21, 2026, 112 live Level postings name both OpenAI and a Google Cloud tool. Google Cloud put OpenAI models in private preview in its model garden the same day. The employers asking for both mostly want senior hires, and most of these roles are rated Builds AI.

What happened

On October 21, 2026, Google Cloud announced that OpenAI models are rolling out in private preview in its model garden. The post names three models: GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna.

Access starts with select enterprise customers. Usage is billed through Google Cloud Marketplace, so it appears on one Google Cloud invoice and draws down existing cloud commitments.

Google also says customers can connect local Codex CLI and Desktop workflows to its Gemini platform for inference. OpenAI models are listed as coming soon to Gemini for business and Google Antigravity.

Google calls itself the only hyperscale cloud provider offering all three leading closed source LLMs. That is Google's own claim, not a measurement. The news also reached the front page of Hacker News the same day.

Which jobs ask for OpenAI and Google Cloud together?

Mostly senior roles, and software engineering is the largest category. Seniors account for 74 postings. Software engineering accounts for 59.

Titles point the same way. The word engineer appears in 54 titles. The word architect appears in 15.

Level reads each posting and rates how much of the job is AI. Builds AI means the job is building AI systems, and 62 postings reach it (see /levels and /level/4). Across all postings that name OpenAI, the share at that level is about 1 in 4.

Another 37 postings are rated Works on AI, where the daily work is on AI products without building the model.

Pay is visible in a minority of them. 25 postings list a yearly salary in US dollars. The median advertised minimum is $145,000. That is a small sample, so treat it as a rough guide.

If you work in engineering, start from the software engineering hub. Both OpenAI and Vertex AI have their own tool pages with live roles.

What else do these postings ask for?

Most of these jobs are multi-model. A second model family, Claude or Gemini, appears in 69 postings. Claude or Anthropic appears in 65.

Vertex AI is named in 68 postings. None of the 112 postings mention "model garden".

Agent frameworks come up too. LangChain or LangGraph appears in 58 postings.

The full combination is narrower. OpenAI, a second model family and an agent framework appear together in 34 postings. If your work covers all three, these postings are the closest match.

Who is hiring for both, and how does Google Cloud compare?

63 companies have at least one of these postings. PwC leads with 16. Databricks has 6. Orange has 5. Together those three account for 27 postings, so a few employers shape this count.

Level has 1,800+ live postings that name OpenAI. Among them, 215 also name an AWS tool. That is 12%.

Another 200 name an Azure tool. That is 11%. Most of them carry the azure-openai tag, so that pairing is close to built in.

Google Cloud pairs with OpenAI in 112 postings. That is about 6%. In absolute numbers it is the smaller pairing today.

Almost all of these postings predate the announcement, and none of them mentions GPT-6. Read the count as a baseline to re-measure, not as demand for the new models.

Fewer of these roles are remote than across OpenAI postings overall. 42% of them are remote. Across every posting that names OpenAI, the remote share is 49%.

The United States leads by country. India comes second. France has 8 postings. The United Kingdom has 7. Browse more on remote AI jobs or read the agentic AI jobs guide.

Method

  • Source: Level's live job database, queried on October 21, 2026.
  • Scope: live postings that name openai or openai-api. Google Cloud means gcp, google-cloud, google-cloud-platform, vertex-ai or vertex.
  • Cloud comparison: AWS means aws, bedrock, amazon-bedrock, aws-bedrock, sagemaker or amazon-sagemaker. Azure means azure or azure-openai.
  • Open roles list: a text search for "openai vertex", which matches 68 postings. Levels are defined at /levels.
  • Limits: tools are read from posting text, so a posting that omits a tool is not counted. Salary is yearly US dollars only. None of these counts measure demand for the new GPT-6 models.
