There is no single best job board — there is a best board for the role you're filling. A giant generalist board (Indeed, LinkedIn Jobs, ZipRecruiter) maximizes reach; a themed board (We Work Remotely for remote work, Wellfound for startups, Level for AI-relevant roles) maximizes audience fit at a real price.
The honest tradeoff
- Reach: Indeed, LinkedIn Jobs and ZipRecruiter win — they are default destinations for most job seekers, at the cost of your post sitting next to every other role, AI-relevant or not.
- Price transparency: We Work Remotely ($299) and Level ($299) post a flat number on their own site. LinkedIn Jobs and ZipRecruiter don't show a price until you start a listing — we checked both this session and neither published one.
- Audience fit for AI roles: this is where Level is built to compete, not on size. Every one of the 47,040 live postings is rated for how much AI is actually in the work, and 20% are rated Level 3 or 4 — a filter no generalist board offers.
