AI in this role
Own end-to-end CNC programming and operation for prototype and production parts in a humanoid robotics manufacturing environment.
About 1X
We’re building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it’s not.
To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, manufacturing - at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.
NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it - we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you, if this excites you.
If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.
About the Team
Our Manufacturing team is the engine behind every prototype, iteration, and production part that brings NEO closer to homes. We sit at the intersection of design and reality - turning engineering intent into physical hardware with the speed and precision the mission demands. Without us, the robot doesn’t get built.
Your Charter
Create an abundant supply of physical labor by ensuring every machined part that goes into NEO is precise, manufacturable, and delivered fast. You’ll own the path from CAD file to finished part, enabling our engineers to iterate at the pace required to put safe, intelligent humanoids into the real world.
Key Outcomes
Own end-to-end CNC programming and operation for prototype and small-scale production parts, holding tight tolerances across 5-axis milling and mill-turn work
Deliver daily or next-day turnaround on engineering prototype parts without compromising quality
Drive measurable improvements in design for manufacturability by partnering directly with engineering on every part you touch
Maintain in-process inspection and quality standards that result in first-article acceptance on the parts you produce
Keep the shop running safely, cleanly, and reliably as we scale machining throughput
Key Competencies
Deep fluency with advanced 5-axis and mill-turn CNC programming - you can take a complex part from CAD to finished good without hand-holding
Strong CAM expertise paired with sharp judgment on tooling, fixturing, and process planning
Genuine craftsmanship and attention to detail - you care that the part is right, not just that it’s done
Collaborative builder mindset - you push back on designs that aren’t manufacturable and offer real solutions
Bias toward speed without cutting corners on quality or safety
Minimum Requirements
Proven hands-on experience programming and operating 5-axis and mill-turn CNC machines
Proficiency in a professional CAM system
Strong working knowledge of machining tolerances and in-process inspection techniques
Able to work full-time on-site in Hayward alongside a focused team
Preferred Skills
Experience in high-precision industries such as robotics, aerospace, or medical devices
Background supporting rapid prototyping environments where turnaround time matters as much as tolerance
Comfort working directly with design engineers to influence part geometry and reduce machining complexity
What does a successful 1X Team Member look like
Team members at 1X who thrive here are builders. They move fast, own their work completely, and treat time like it’s the one thing you can’t get back - because it is. They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.
Compensation Range
$100,000 - $140,000 + Equity
Benefits
Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
Generous paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave

Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: Cnc Programming, 5 Axis Milling, Manufacturing, Machining, and Cnc. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
