The Dimensional Engineer supports dimensional Quality engineering activities for vehicle launch and series production at Lucid Motors. Reporting to the Sr. Dimensional Engineer, this role performs drawing compliance reviews, dimensional data analysis, vehicle build correlation, fixture and measurement-system validation, process capability monitoring, containment support, and dimensional audits across Stamping, Body-in-White (BIW), Closures, and Vehicle Assembly. The engineer works cross-functionally to identify dimensional variation, protect production, and implement sustainable improvements that meet engineering specifications and customer-perceived Quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute dimensional Quality activities and deliverables under the direction of the Sr. Dimensional Engineer for assigned vehicle systems and manufacturing areas.
  • Review engineering drawings, GD&T, datum strategies, tolerance requirements, assembly interfaces, special characteristics, and measurement plans.
  • Analyze ScanBox, eCube, CMM, optical scanning, fixture, and manual measurement results to identify trends, out-of-control conditions, and dimensional risks.
  • Support vehicle build correlation and investigate gap, flush, fit, alignment, geometry, sealing, closure effort, and dimensional variation concerns.
  • Perform structured root cause analysis with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Supplier Quality, Tooling, Production, and Metrology teams.
  • Develop and maintain dimensional inspection plans, Control Plans, reaction plans, check sheets, defect maps, and standardized reporting.
  • Support fixture buyoff, tooling verification, gage approval, measurement-system validation, correlation studies, and Measurement System Analysis (MSA) activities.
  • Conduct capability studies and monitor critical dimensional characteristics using SPC, Cp, and Cpk methodologies.
  • Support APQP, PPAP, trial builds, safe launch, engineering changes, new-part introduction, process validation, and dimensional sign-off activities.
  • Coordinate containment, suspect population identification, dimensional inspection, product disposition evidence, and corrective-action verification for nonconforming conditions.
  • Perform dimensional process audits and verify compliance with approved measurement strategies, Control Plans, work instructions, and escalation requirements.
  • Prepare clear dimensional issue summaries, trend reports, correlation studies, and action tracking for technical and management reviews.
  • Work with metrology programmers, eCube specialists, technicians, and production teams to ensure accurate data collection and timely response to abnormalities.
  • Capture lessons learned and support continuous improvement of dimensional measurement, data visualization, traceability, and manufacturing feedback loops.

Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of GD&T, datum structures, tolerance interpretation, dimensional variation, and automotive body geometry.
  • Experience with CMM, ScanBox, eCube or inline measurement systems, laser or optical scanning, checking fixtures, and dimensional analysis software.
  • Understanding of Stamping, BIW, Closures, hemming, joining, and Vehicle Assembly processes.
  • Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, Cp/Cpk, layered process audits, and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Ability to interpret measurement data, recognize dimensional trends, correlate findings to process conditions, and communicate actionable conclusions.
  • Strong analytical, data visualization, technical reporting, organizational, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Hands-on, customer-focused approach with the ability to manage multiple launch and production priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with PLM, MES, QMS, metrology databases, and digital traceability systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metrology, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience in automotive dimensional engineering, metrology, body engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to work on the manufacturing floor and support production and launch priorities.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate dimensional findings and clearly escalate issues to the Sr. Dimensional Engineer and cross-functional stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with GD&T, CMM or optical metrology, checking fixtures, dimensional data analysis, MSA, SPC, or capability studies.
  • Experience supporting vehicle launches, greenfield manufacturing, safe launch, or high-volume production ramp-up.
  • Automotive Stamping, BIW, Closures, Tooling, or Vehicle Assembly experience.
