We Are Looking For:

We are looking for a recognized expert in social media — a leader who combines strong creative judgment with disciplined strategic thinking, and who understands this channel as one of the most direct and effective ways of engaging our target audience at scale. This is a storyteller with substance: creative, analytical, and entrepreneurial, with the ability to translate complex ideas into compelling narratives and formats that build audiences and drive measurable engagement.

This person has deep command of the dynamics of social media — how the channel is evolving across paid and owned programming, how content performs, and how audiences and communities form — combined with a clear understanding of how our clients, both institutional and retail, engage differently across every business we support. Financial services experience is essential: this leader has operated in a regulated environment, understands the rationale behind our controls, and works in close partnership with Compliance to enable innovation responsibly.

This is, above all, a collaborative leader — someone who builds trust across marketing, business, and controls partners, and who is equally committed to developing their team as channel experts. The role reports to the global head of brand and advertising for State Street, owns paid and owned social media strategy end to end, and is accountable for social media operations and execution. The leader manages a team of 8-12 team members globally

Why This Role Matters:

Social media is one of the primary channels through which our reputation is built, extended, and tested. For clients evaluating whether to trust us with their assets, for prospects forming a first impression, and for our own people, this channel is critical. This leader will turn social media into a genuine strategic capability — one that strengthens our brand, amplifies our capabilities, extends the reach of our experts, and contributes measurably to business outcomes. Beyond establishing a clear role for the channel across owned and paid strategies, this person will own social media operations and execution globally, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery across every market and business we serve, while also being a senior leader within the marketing organization, helping to architect our broader transformation into a high-performing, data-led strategic partner and growth driver for the business.

What You Will Be Responsible For:

Vision, Storytelling & Enterprise Strategy

  • Define and lead a business-aligned social media vision for the enterprise, grounded in strong storytelling and strategic rigor, and champion this vision across Marketing and the businesses to position social media as a core strategic capability.
  • Own paid and owned channel strategy end to end, including creative innovation and audience development across existing and emerging platforms, ensuring the firm remains at the forefront of platform and format evolution.
  • Partner with Brand, Communications, Content, and Digital teams to ensure social media amplifies and helps shape the firm's broader narrative.
  • Build executive and employee advocacy programs that give our experts an authentic, credible voice with both audiences.

Global Operations & Execution

  • Serve as the single point of accountability for social media operations and execution globally, across paid and owned channels, ensuring consistent standards, quality, and pace of delivery across every market and business line.
  • Establish scalable global processes and ways of working that allow regional and business-aligned teams to execute efficiently while maintaining enterprise consistency.
  • Ensure every business maintains a social presence calibrated to how its clients use the channel.

Business-Aligned Team Leadership

  • Develop dedicated social media teams aligned to our core businesses, ensuring each team understands and executes seamlessly against the distinct clients, priorities, and rhythms of its business.
  • Build a center of excellence with shared standards, tools, and best practices, delivered through teams embedded in and accountable to their respective businesses.
  • Coach and develop talent, fostering a team culture that balances creative ambition with sound judgment and risk awareness.

Financial Influencer Community

  • Develop and manage State Street's financial influencer community, establishing a disciplined framework for identifying, vetting, and partnering with credible external voices who extend our reach and reinforce our credibility with target audiences.
  • Ensure influencer engagement is governed by clear standards for disclosure, compliance, and brand fit, consistent with regulatory requirements.

Measurement, Data & Technology Strategy

  • Frame and own the enterprise measurement strategy for owned and paid social media, establishing the KPIs, dashboards, and reporting that connect investment to awareness, engagement, and commercial outcomes.
  • Guide the data and marketing technology strategy for the channel, ensuring platforms, tools, and infrastructure are optimized to maximize efficiency and impact.
  • Evangelize best practices across the marketing organization and use audience insight and social listening to continuously sharpen strategy and demonstrate business impact.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain enterprise social media policies, governance, and controls that enable speed and innovation while meeting regulatory obligations.
  • Partner closely with Legal, Risk, and Compliance to build workflows that embed efficiency and control by design.
  • Lead social listening, reputation monitoring, and crisis response protocols for the enterprise.

Senior Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Serve as a senior leader within the marketing organization, helping to architect its transformation into a high-performing, data-led strategic partner and growth driver for the business.
  • Operate as a trusted, collaborative partner across Marketing, the businesses, and Controls, ensuring social media's perspective is incorporated early in broader marketing and business planning.
  • Manage agency, technology, and vendor relationships to maximize impact and efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in social media, with a track record as both a strategic leader and a skilled storyteller, able to articulate a vision while maintaining a strong eye for content quality.
  • Significant experience in financial services or another highly regulated industry, with fluency in the regulatory and control environment.
  • Demonstrated success owning both paid and owned social media strategy, with direct accountability for global operations and execution.
  • Demonstrated success building and leading business-aligned or channel teams, ideally spanning both B2B/institutional and retail audiences.
  • A track record of building or transforming a social media function, not solely managing an existing one.
  • Strong command of social analytics, measurement frameworks, and social listening, with the ability to translate data into a clear point of view on impact.
  • Experience guiding data and marketing technology strategy to improve channel efficiency and performance.
  • Experience developing and managing financial influencer or external voice programs, including establishing vetting, disclosure, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience activating senior executives and subject matter experts as credible voices on social media.
  • A collaborative leader with a track record of building trust across marketing, business, and compliance/controls stakeholders.
  • Experience building governance frameworks and operating models that balance speed with risk management.
  • Familiarity with emerging AI-enabled social and content capabilities.

Adapt your resume

  • List these exact terms on your resume: Social Media Strategy, Brand Management, Regulatory Compliance, Team Management, and Storytelling. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
  • Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
