The Head of Quality and Business Processes is a transversal operations leadership role responsible for establishing and maintaining the management system, process architecture and quality disciplines that enable safe, compliant, efficient and consistently executed operations. The role will translate ENGIE Group requirements and the South African operating model into practical standards, controlled processes, digital workflows, reporting routines and continuous improvement programmes across the operational portfolio.
3. ROLE PURPOSE AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The role will lead Quality Management and Business Process Management for Operations, with accountability for:
- Building a fit-for-purpose Operations Integrated Management System (IMS) that connects governance, policies, standards, procedures, controls, records and assurance activities.
- Designing, standardising and governing end-to-end business processes that improve operational consistency, accountability, efficiency and scalability.
- Establishing the Operations Operational Excellence Framework, including maturity assessments, improvement roadmaps, performance routines and benefit tracking.
- Providing effective document and records management, management reporting, digital process enablement and quality assurance across the operating portfolio.
- Leading a small specialist team and coordinating process owners across Asset Management, O&M, Engineering, HSE, ESG, Performance, Finance, Procurement, IT and other support functions.
Specific responsibilities of the role include:
Quality Management and Assurance
- Develop, implement and continuously improve the Operations Quality Management System, aligned with the broader IMS and applicable ENGIE Group requirements.
- Establish the quality policy, objectives, annual quality plan, assurance calendar and portfolio-level quality KPIs.
- Define risk-based quality controls, inspection and verification requirements, acceptance criteria and evidence-retention standards for critical operational activities.
- Plan and coordinate internal audits, process reviews and readiness activities for external, lender, customer, regulatory or certification audits.
- Own the non-conformance, corrective action and preventive action process, including root cause analysis, closure verification and recurrence prevention.
- Analyse quality trends, recurring findings and control weaknesses, and escalate systemic risks to Operations leadership.
Operations Integrated Management System (IMS)
- Act as the Operations IMS owner and coordinate the integration of Operations, Engineering, HSE, ESG, Security, IT and other relevant management-system requirements.
- Maintain the IMS architecture, process map, governance calendar, obligation register and links between policies, standards, procedures, controls and records.
- Coordinate management reviews, ensuring decisions, actions, risks, changes, objectives and performance are formally tracked to closure.
- Support alignment to recognised management-system principles, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, where applicable to the business and asset context.
- Ensure new assets, OpCos, technologies and business lines are incorporated into the IMS through structured onboarding and gap-closure plans.
Business Process Architecture and Governance
- Establish and maintain an Operations process architecture showing end-to-end value streams, processes, subprocesses, interfaces, owners, controls, inputs, outputs and records.
- Facilitate process design and improvement using practical methods such as SIPOC, RACI, process mapping, control design, standard work and value-stream analysis.
- Define process governance standards, including process ownership, approval authorities, review cycles, version control, KPI requirements and deviation management.
- Clarify cross-functional interfaces and service expectations between Operations, projects, support functions, Project Companies, Operating Companies and external service providers.
- Ensure processes are designed around clear accountability, appropriate segregation of duties, the Delegation of Authority and applicable contractual or regulatory obligations.
Operational Excellence Framework
- Design and deploy the Operations Operational Excellence Framework and a practical maturity model across assets and central Operations functions.
- Coordinate baseline assessments, asset improvement roadmaps, annual priorities and periodic maturity reviews.
- Embed continuous improvement routines such as visual management, structured problem solving, lessons learned, standardisation and replication of proven practices.
- Maintain a portfolio improvement pipeline, prioritising initiatives by risk, value, effort, urgency and strategic alignment.
- Track implementation, benefits realisation and sustainability of improvements, and report progress to the Operations management team.
Document and Records Management
- Own the Operations document management framework and ensure a single, controlled source of truth for approved operational documents and records.

- Coordinate document owners and controllers to maintain current, approved and traceable policies, standards, procedures, work instructions, forms, registers and evidence.
- Drive migration from fragmented storage locations to the approved Document Management System, with appropriate change control and user adoption.
- Monitor document health, including overdue reviews, uncontrolled copies, duplicate content, obsolete documents and missing mandatory records.
Digital Tools and Process Automation

- Promote consistent use of approved tools such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Power Automate, Power BI and relevant ENGIE Group platforms, subject to the approved technology landscape.
- Maintain an Operations digital-process roadmap and prioritised use-case backlog, with clear business owners, benefits, controls, data requirements and adoption measures.
- Ensure digitalisation simplifies work, strengthens controls and traceability, and does not automate inefficient or poorly governed processes.
- Coordinate user acceptance testing, training, release readiness, post-implementation support and adoption monitoring.
Reporting and Management Information
- Own the Operations reporting governance framework, covering reporting calendars, data ownership, definitions, controls, review and approval processes, and distribution protocols.

- Establish governance for operational process changes, ensuring impacts, approvals, communications, training, document updates and implementation evidence are addressed.
- Support operational readiness and business continuity by ensuring critical processes, roles, records and fallback arrangements are documented and tested.
Stakeholder, Financial and Resource Management

- Chair or coordinate relevant quality, process, IMS and operational excellence governance forums.
- Manage the function within approved budgetary limits and control procurement and expenditure in line with the Delegation of Authority.
- Lead, coordinate and develop direct reports; set objectives and KPIs; manage performance, capacity and succession; and implement skills-development plans.
- Promote a practical quality culture in which people understand process purpose, raise issues early, use data and take ownership of sustainable improvement.
