The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in C#, .NET, cloud-native application development, microservices architecture, and API engineering, with experience delivering secure, resilient, and customer-facing platforms.

This role will play a key part in building and evolving external and internal APIs, modernizing applications into cloud-native services, and delivering highly available solutions that serve customers at scale. The successful candidate will collaborate across engineering, product, architecture, security, and operations teams to design and implement modern software systems that are secure, observable, resilient, and maintainable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain external and internal RESTful APIs, microservices, and backend platforms using C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, and cloud-native architectural patterns.
  • Build scalable, secure, and highly available services that support customer-facing products, third-party integrations, and enterprise workflows.
  • Lead the design and implementation of microservice-based architectures, including service decomposition, API contracts, event-driven patterns, observability, resiliency, and performance optimization.
  • Design and implement cloud-native solutions leveraging modern cloud platforms and services, including containerization, orchestration, infrastructure automation, monitoring, and continuous delivery practices.
  • Develop modern web applications using Angular, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and contemporary front-end development frameworks and practices.
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, UX designers, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and implementation plans.
  • Drive engineering excellence through adoption of software design principles, code quality standards, test automation, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile delivery practices.
  • Take ownership of technical design decisions, architecture reviews, code reviews, and mentoring engineers across the team.
  • Define and implement comprehensive testing strategies including unit testing, integration testing, API testing, automation frameworks, and quality gates to ensure production-ready software.
  • Proactively address security throughout the software lifecycle by implementing secure coding practices, supporting vulnerability remediation, addressing penetration test findings, and ensuring compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, and related technologies to improve engineering productivity, code quality, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation while ensuring responsible and secure usage.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, cloud platforms, API ecosystems, AI-assisted development, and modern software engineering practices, bringing innovative ideas to the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience, with significant hands-on expertise in C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, API development, and distributed systems.
  • Proven experience designing, developing, and supporting external and internal REST APIs consumed by customers, partners, and internal applications.
  • Strong experience building and operating microservices-based architectures, including service communication patterns, scalability, resiliency, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience developing solutions in public cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong proficiency with Angular (Angular 16+ preferred), TypeScript, component-based architecture, state management, routing, and API integration.
  • Experience with containerization and modern deployment technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, AKS, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native engineering principles including observability, logging, monitoring, distributed tracing, fault tolerance, and operational excellence.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices for automated build, deployment, testing, and release management.
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL, Entity Framework, data access patterns, and API-centric application design.
  • Experience using source control and collaborative development workflows with Git and GitHub.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with C++ development, including object-oriented programming, performance optimization, debugging, and integration with existing platforms or services.
  • Experience building customer-facing platforms, SaaS applications, developer platforms, or public API ecosystems.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, asynchronous messaging, and technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS/SNS, or similar messaging frameworks.
  • Knowledge of API gateway technologies, API security standards (OAuth, OpenID Connect, JWT), and API lifecycle management.

How we rate this

Lead Software Engineer at Thomson Reuters rates 28 out of 100 for how much of the daily work is AI. That makes it Little AI (AI Level 1 of 4). The level is about AI in the job, not seniority.

Classification

Little AI. AI is not part of the work.

  1. ●●●● Builds AI80 to 100
  2. ●●●○ Works on AI60 to 79
  3. ●●○○ Uses AI40 to 59
  4. ●○○○ Little AI0 to 39

Levels come from how often the tools, models and workflows of the role are named in the posting itself. Open the description and count.

Skills and AI tools this role asks for

ClaudeCopilotCursor

Questions you could be asked

  1. What's a project where you used Claude hands-on?
  2. Walk me through how you've used Copilot in your day-to-day work.
  3. What are the limits of Cursor that you've run into, and how did you work around them?

Adapt your resume

  • List these exact terms on your resume: Claude, Copilot, and Cursor. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
  • Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them — a tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
