Materials & Logistics Lead

The Material ^ Logistics Lead reports directly to the Project Supply Chain Manager but liaises closely with project management, procurement, engineering, expediting, logistics and construction management. They are responsible for the day to day management, administration and control of expediting, tracking, tracing, receipt, inspection, storage and issue of goods, documentation, material & equipment. For maintaining material/equipment schedules, material management module in Convero and for reporting as to current status of goods & material irrespective of whether delivered directly to contractors/employees or if received into storage. The incumbent also oversees and ensures good housekeeping in the warehouse, laydown areas, plans efficient & economical use of storage facilities, manpower, mobile equipment and tools.

• Ensure that project objectives, specifically the material management module in Convero are met.
• Support project team with related supply chain issues.
• In conjunction with procurement & contracts obtain material/equipment schedule from Convero. 
• Ensure accuracy of material/equipment schedule information, order no.’s, contractual dates, etc.
• Maintain the material management module in Convero & immediately report any discrepancies.
• Prior to delivery of material/equipment identify storage location(s) based on purchase order information.
• Systematic storage of material/equipment to enable efficient retrieval without any loss and/or damages.
• Report weekly on slippage of scheduled delivery dates and provide options for recovery.
• Inspect or arrange specialised inspection of delivered goods for compliance with order & delivery docket
• Report any non-conformance including slippages, shortages, oversupply & damages.
• Expedite delivery to meet construction schedules either through expediting department or directly.
• Expedite revision changes on specifications and drawings when necessary.
• Initiate action for repair or replacement of any item damaged on receipt or during storage.
• Manage tagging of material & equipment & ensure manufacturers storage instructions are adhered to. 
• Supervise good housekeeping in warehouse & laydown areas.
• Plan efficient & economical use of storage facilities, manpower, mobile equipment & tools.
• Perform physical inventories, update material control system & immediately report any discrepancies.
• Notify contractors of pending arrivals of material/equipment to arrange for receipt, unloading & storage.
• Record details of received goods and storage location on the material management module in Convero
• Maintain filing system of delivery notes, freight bills, packing lists, storage location(s) & issued receipts.
• Record the issue of goods to contractors whether delivered directly to them or issued via the store.
• Issue MRR’s to initiate payment procedures for received goods, material & equipment. 
• Ensure freight bill information conforms with shipping documents, packing lists & order specifications.
• Assist procurement with purchase order close outs.

Qualifications:

• Matric or equivalent
• Degree or diploma in relevant field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 to 6 years experience in material management, preferably within engineering sector.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

• Thorough understanding and application of Convero material management module
• Thorough knowledge of integrated materials management
• Good computer skills – in particular Microsoft office such as MS Word and Excel.
• High level of numeracy and computer literacy.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Appreciation of and participation in team behaviour within procurement & project team environments.
• Must be responsible, accurate and thorough in all areas.
• Thorough knowledge of, and experience with, computers and associated complex software packages.
