Principal Product Manager - Technical, External Services, AWS Billing

We're building the next generation of AWS enterprise contract automation, making deal creation autonomous, intelligent, and self-service. You'll define the AI-powered platform behind billions of dollars in AWS private pricing agreements, serving customers from mid-market companies to the world's largest enterprises. This is the foundation for how customers commit to AWS and how AWS delivers on those commitments accurately and at scale.

As Principal Product Manager - Technical External Services, you'll define the future of our contract automation platform including AI-powered systems that can draft, simulate, negotiate, ingest, and validate contracts without manual intervention. You'll define how AWS represents commercial intent as structured data, establish governed libraries of reusable contract terms and negotiation policies, architect the guardrails that make autonomous contract generation safe, and build the self-service experiences that let customers of different size configure and commit to agreements through digital channels. Your work directly determines how quickly AWS can close enterprise deals, whether contracts produce accurate billing from day one, and whether customers can self-serve commitments without sales engagement.

In this role, you'll define product strategy that spans multiple years, driving initiatives that fundamentally change how enterprise agreements flow through AWS. You'll architect complex data models for ambiguous commercial domains, design how AI agents generate and negotiate contracts within defined boundaries, and build simulation and decision-support capabilities that help deal teams model revenue impact and make better commercial decisions before committing. You'll establish the mechanisms — operating cadences, metrics, escalation paths — that make contract automation delivery repeatable across multiple organizations. You'll conduct direct research with deal teams, enterprise customers, and commercial operations teams to understand where the contracting process creates friction, translating those insights into product requirements.

You'll collaborate with engineering teams across AWS's billing, agreements, and commercial operations organizations, as well as applied science teams building the AI models that power drafting and negotiation. You'll partner with sales, business development, and deal strategy teams to align contract automation with go-to-market strategy for enterprise and mid-market segments. You'll mentor other product managers and contribute to raising the product bar across the organization. This role requires deep understanding of how AI agent systems work and how to constrain them safely, combined with the cross-organizational influence to bring diverse stakeholders together around a common vision.

Key job responsibilities
- Define product strategy spanning multiple years, driving contract automation initiatives from concept through production
- Architect the machine-readable data model that represents AWS's commercial agreements as structured, actionable data, including reusable contract terms and policy rules
- Design AI-powered contract generation and negotiation experiences with appropriate guardrails and escalation mechanisms
- Define self-service contract experiences for enterprise and mid-market customers
- Build simulation and data-driven decision-support capabilities for deal teams
- Establish mechanisms that make cross-organizational delivery repeatable
- Conduct direct research with deal teams and enterprise customers to validate product direction
- Partner with sales, business development, and deal strategy teams to align with go-to-market strategy
- Mentor other product managers and contribute to raising the product bar

Basic qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative/technical field such as computer science, engineering, statistics
- Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
- Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product
- 6+ years of technical product or program management experience
- 3+ years of developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics using data modeling experience
- Experience working in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment, or experience delivering results for large, cross-functional initiatives/projects
- Experience building deep client and agency relationships

Preferred qualifications

- Experience working directly with Engineers on product enhancements
- Experience in project management methodologies, business analysis, or process improvement
- Experience developing, deploying and managing AI products at scale
- Experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics or natural language processing, or experience in computer architecture
- Experience with contract lifecycle management, legal tech, or enterprise deal automation
- Experience with billing, commerce, or financial systems at scale
- Experience working within teams delivering software products using agile methodologies
- Experience mentoring junior product managers and leading teams of product managers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
