AI in this role
Lead social product features at Airbnb, utilizing AI-powered prototyping and collaborating across cross-functional teams.
Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.
The Community You Will Join:
Our Product Marketing Managers start with the guest and work backwards, turning product thinking, data, and research into strategy. They own outcomes end to end, lead cross-functional teams across engineering, design, data science, and program management, and stay close enough to the details to know when something is off.
The Social team is making Airbnb a place where you travel with, and because of, the people you know. Our strategy has three parts: scaling the social graph, building social features that make Airbnb fun and useful for you and your friends, and creating social experiences that help people form new relationships and strengthen existing ones in real life. Each part has its own dedicated pod of engineers, designers, and program partners.
The Difference You Will Make
As Product Marketing Manager for Social Features, you'll lead a new pod that turns guests' connections into reasons to come back to Airbnb. You'll own the features people use with their friends: the travel map and sharing it, group travel tools, recommendations from people you know, and how connections are woven across Airbnb to make the whole travel experience better. You'll own the outcome, not just the roadmap: you'll make the calls on scope and priority with a dedicated engineering lead, engineers, and design partner, and be accountable for the results. You'll take features from brief to launch, use experiment results to decide what to build next, and grow how often guests plan, book, and share trips with the people they know. You'll also write the product narrative that explains each release to leadership and to guests.
A Typical Day
- Work backwards from the guest: write crisp briefs and requirements for new features, each grounded in a real guest need and a clear definition of success
- Prototype with AI first: build working prototypes yourself to explore ideas, test them with guests, and align the team in days rather than weeks
- Drive execution with engineering, design, data science, and program management, from concept through launch and iteration, often with several features in flight at once
- Go deep with the team on the details: review builds, test flows yourself, and chase down the edge cases that decide whether a feature delivers for guests
- Shape how connections are integrated across the guest journey, from search and booking to Trips, so planning and traveling with people you know feels natural
- Build shareable, delightful moments like the travel map that bring new people to Airbnb and grow the social graph
- Partner with the social graph and social experiences pods, and with Trips, Search, Checkout, and other partner teams, to ship work that spans surfaces
- Design for trust and privacy from the start, with clear controls over what people share and with whom
- Put mechanisms in place, like goals and a weekly metrics review, so the team knows where it stands and acts on it
- Partner with data scientists on experiments, dive deep into the results, and make clear calls on what to scale, iterate on, or stop
- Present strategy and results in leadership reviews, turning complex tradeoffs into clear decisions and concise narratives
Your Expertise
- 8+ years in product marketing or product management, with a track record of moving a core consumer metric (engagement, retention, sharing, or conversion) through features you led to launch
- Experience building social or network-driven products: sharing, invites, feeds, profiles, group features, or connection-based recommendations
- Deeply AI-native in how you work: you use AI tools every day for prototyping, research, specs, and analysis, and you've changed how your team builds because of it
- Obsessed with the details: you go as deep as it takes with engineering and design, from data to edge cases, to make sure what ships drives great outcomes for guests
- Strong execution and a bias for action: you've led cross-functional teams through complex launches on time and at a high quality bar, and you move fast on decisions that are easy to reverse
- Fluent in experiment results: you can define what a test needs to learn, read growth metrics alongside guardrails like trust, privacy, and satisfaction, and turn them into product decisions
- Strong judgment of consumer product quality, a high bar for craft, and a clear sense of what makes an experience fun, useful, and worth sharing
- Comfort working in a new, fast-moving area where you set the roadmap and build the team's operating rhythm
- Ability to earn the trust of engineering, design, and data science partners and lead without formal authority
- Clear, structured writer and communicator who can distill complex tradeoffs for executives and translate strategy into actionable guidance for teams
- Experience at a consumer marketplace or travel company, or launching a new social product at scale (preferred)
