AI in this role

copilot-usage
Are you a developer who loves making security approachable and building bridges between deep technical concepts and the people who build on AWS? Do you get excited about helping external developers ship more securely without slowing them down, including the new generation building AI-powered applications? Are you passionate about growing developer communities and turning hard security problems into clear, usable guidance? If you are a natural teacher with strong technical depth and excellent communication skills, we want to talk to you.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Senior Developer Advocate to join our AWS Security Customer Outcomes team. In this role, you will lead developer engagement focused on security, driving adoption of AWS security services and secure-by-design practices while fostering a thriving community of developers who build securely on AWS.

Your mission is to improve the security experience for external developers on AWS. You will meet developers where they are, understand the friction they hit when securing their applications and workloads, and turn that insight into content, tools, and product feedback that makes building securely the easy path. A core part of that mission is helping developers secure the AI development life cycle (AI-DLC), from how they source and handle training data to how they deploy, monitor, and guard agentic and generative AI workloads. You will also show developers how to use AI itself to accelerate security, bringing security review, threat modeling, and remediation earlier and faster into the way they build. Alongside this, you will champion open source security, contributing to and uplifting the open-source projects and tooling that developers rely on, and helping the broader community build and ship secure software supply chains.

Estimated 25% travel required for the role.

Key job responsibilities
You will create engaging technical content, including tutorials, blog posts, reference architectures, and sample applications, that helps external developers secure their workloads on AWS. This includes guidance for securing AI-powered and agentic applications across the AI development life cycle, and practical examples of using AI-assisted tooling to speed up secure coding, threat modeling, and vulnerability remediation.

You will represent AWS Security at conferences, meetups, and online events, delivering technical talks and workshops that educate and inspire developers to adopt secure-by-design practices. You will gather developer feedback on security pain points, including the emerging challenges of building and securing AI systems, and feed it directly into the AWS Security product roadmap, working closely with service teams to ensure our security services and the broader platform meet real developer needs.

You will build and nurture relationships with developer communities and actively contribute to open-source security projects and tooling, helping raise the security bar across the ecosystem and establishing yourself as a trusted security voice in the technical community.

A day in the life
Your day might begin by reviewing developer questions on community forums and social channels, spotting a recurring security pain point, and starting a technical blog post that addresses it. You might spend the middle of your day with a security service team, sharing field insights and shaping an upcoming feature so it is easier for developers to adopt securely.

After lunch, you could record a tutorial demonstrating how to use an AI coding assistant to catch security issues before they ship, then join a remote meetup to give a technical talk on securing agentic AI workloads. Later, you might build code samples for a hands-on security workshop or help plan AWS Security presence at a developer conference.

Throughout the day, you are engaging with developers, sharing practical security guidance, and staying current with both the threat landscape and AWS service changes while keeping your own skills sharp through hands-on building.

Copilot Usage

Questions you could be asked

  1. How has using an AI coding assistant changed the way you review your own code?
  2. Describe a typical day in a role like this one: which parts run through AI directly?
  3. If you removed AI from this role, what would be left, and how do you decide what still needs a human?

Adapt your resume

  • List these exact terms on your resume: Copilot Usage. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
  • Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
  • Show where AI is part of your daily process, not a one-off project. This role expects it to be a running habit.
