AI in this role

Build the AI infrastructure that lets Amazon's most advanced advertisers scale — owning the architectural direction for the Amazon Ads MCP server and API gateway, and the real-time agentic applications that deliver reporting and analytics data at scale. You'll work at the frontier of applied AI in advertising, shaping how emerging technologies translate into production features that improve the experience for sophisticated advertisers.

This is a greenfield, high-visibility space. You'll own foundational technical decisions on highly-visible initiatives, drive cross-functional alignment on new advertising features, and establish the engineering practices that scale as the platform grows. The work spans real-time reporting and analytics, agentic applications, and the MCP server and API gateway that advertisers and internal teams depend on.

Key job responsibilities
- Own the architectural direction for the Amazon Ads MCP server and API gateway, making foundational technical decisions that optimize for simplicity, maintainability, and performance
- Lead the design and delivery of emerging AI technologies on the Amazon Ads platform, balancing speed of delivery with long-term scalability
- Own and enhance real-time reporting and analytics systems delivered through agentic applications, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security at scale
- Drive cross-team collaboration to build consensus on new advertising features, aligning engineering counterparts on technical direction and implementation approaches
- Influence technical direction beyond your team, evaluating industry advancements in AI and translating them into actionable platform enhancements
- Establish engineering best practices and mentor engineers across the team, serving as a technical resource peers seek out for guidance

A day in the life
Your day might begin with a technical discussion to align engineering teams on an upcoming AI feature for the ads platform. After reviewing code contributions from the team, you research the latest developments in applying ML to advertising. You spend time refining the architecture for a new API gateway endpoint, ensuring it meets performance requirements, then collaborate with product managers to translate customer feedback into technical specifications. Later, you mentor engineers on optimizing data structures for real-time analytics processing.

We provide efficient real-time technologies for access to reporting and analytics data through agentic applications, and we build and maintain the Amazon Ads MCP server and API gateway — highly-visible initiatives with extensive opportunities for intelligent architecture and greenfield development. You'll have owner-level impact in shaping the future of advertising technology, in an inclusive environment where technical expertise is valued and innovation is encouraged.

Basic qualifications

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred qualifications

- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
