He angitūtanga: The opportunity
The Brand and Creative team has a permanent opportunity for a Senior Specialist Brand to join the team, reporting to the Brand & Creative Manager. At Auckland Council, our brand is more than a logo or visual identity. It's how Aucklanders experience us through our communications, services, places and interactions every day. You'll play a key role in the stewardship of the Auckland Council brand and the ongoing evolution of how it is expressed across the organisation. Working across one of New Zealand's most complex organisations, you'll help ensure our communications, services, places and experiences reflect who we are and what we stand for. In this varied and collaborative role, you'll partner with teams across Council to embed our brand consistently across customer, community and organisational touchpoints. You'll identify opportunities to strengthen how the brand shows up, contribute to its ongoing evolution of our brand, and help translate strategic thinking into practical guidance, experiences and outcomes.
You'll contribute to the development of brand frameworks, guidance and tools that help teams apply the brand effectively and consistently. From overseeing brand assets, templates, signage and visual identity standards to providing advice on tone of voice and customer touchpoints, you'll help ensure Auckland Council presents a cohesive, recognisable and trusted brand experience.
You'll also build brand capability across the organisation, bringing a strategic brand perspective that helps teams make better decisions about how Auckland Council presents itself and connects with Aucklanders. Alongside this, you'll monitor emerging trends, community expectations and opportunities to strengthen how Auckland Council shows up across the region.

He kōrero mōu: About you
You understand that strong brands are built through experiences as much as communications. You're comfortable contributing to strategic brand thinking while also working hands-on with the systems, assets and guidance that bring it to life. You're curious, insightful and enjoy challenging assumptions to strengthen how a brand is experienced and understood.
We're looking for someone who brings experience in brand strategy, management or governance, along with a strong understanding of how brand, customer experience, communications and organisational culture work together.
You'll be a strong relationship builder who can work effectively across a large and complex organisation, providing trusted advice and constructively challenging thinking where opportunities exist to strengthen the brand. You'll have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong understanding of tone of voice and the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and channels. You will exercise sound judgement, show initiative, and take a proactive approach to identifying and responding to opportunities and challenges. Equally important is your collaborative working style, enabling you to build strong partnerships and achieve successful outcomes across the organisation.
You'll also bring:
- A tertiary qualification in marketing, communications or a related discipline.
-
Experience managing visual identity systems, templates, brand assets and governance processes.
-
An understanding of how brand, customer experience, communications and organisational culture work together.
-
The ability to identify opportunities, challenge constructively and contribute to the ongoing evolution of a brand.
Most importantly, you'll see brand as more than a visual identity. You'll be motivated by opportunities to strengthen how Auckland Council is experienced through the communications, services, environments and interactions that shape everyday experiences for Aucklanders.
