The Sr Manager - Profitability UDE leader is responsible for setting the strategy and direction of the profitability UDE programs and the role aims to deliver ~$1B combined free-cash-flow (FCF) and cost-out impact (COI) annually. Amazon’s CtS has increased by 26% since 2019 with an overall global defect entitlement of $30B, out of which the role is expected to identify, and resolve for defects ($3.2B COI entitlement over next three years) which directly impact all vendors across MPs (including T2/T3). In 2027, the role holder will primarily focus on defects eroding vendor profit margin in Amazon P&L through four primary (not limited to) charters, a) Vendor Agreements , b) Product Cost & Pricing, c) Vendor Returns; and d) Bad Actor or Vendor Abuse.
Unpacking and defining a path forward for these charters is complex, a) requires deep knowledge of business, various systems (e.g. CCOGS, VOPS, Pricing, VCS, Vendor Central) and regional compliance/legal nuances, b) the aforementioned mechanisms are legacy system/processes with often issues being endemic in nature deep rooted across multiple Org leaders, and c) complex stakeholder landscape resulting from fragmented ownership and related interdependencies. This requires the role holder to exhibit right judgement and orchestrate the decision making within 10+ upstream business and system owning matrix organizations through finding the right balance between influencing without authority, using escalation as a mechanism, driving consensus, and exhibiting ownership to drive the solutioning through tech and/or policy changes.

Key job responsibilities
This requires decision making capability on three key areas, a) Strategic Thinking, b) Business Acumen, and c) Change Management and Stakeholder Engagement.
Strategic Thinking: The incumbent must align seven VP organizations (e.g. NA/EU Retail, SPIV, SPFT, APM, AFT, SCOT) across a multitude of UDEs in an environment where none of the teams own the systems e2e. This requires independent strategic thinking to identify clear problem statements in an uncharted territory and Insistence on the Highest Standards as this involves critical risk management, and decisions affect both CX and SPX. Any proposed changes must carefully balance multiple conflicting factors including SPX, customer satisfaction, and financial impact to Amazon.
Business Acumen: The role owner needs to be able to understand ever evolving business requirements across different teams (e.g. SP management, compliance, regulations), competing nature of complex business metrics decisions (e.g. selection, speed, margins), and quantum of P&L implications of business decisions, and then define defect taxonomies for defect elimination. This involves sharp business acumen exhibiting understanding of Retail/3P business dynamics, relevant systems and displaying consistently high bar on Are Right a Lot, i) to decide when to move fast or slow down to deliver specific objectives assessing the risks and benefits; ii) understand and disambiguate trade-offs between business outcomes to improve quality of results; and iii) apply high-judgment when data is not sufficient to set course for disruptive ideas.
Change Management and Stakeholder Engagement: The role owner needs to be able to actively engage with and Earn Trust of leaders across seven VP organizations, to align priorities, influence strategies and timelines of deliveries. This involves complex stakeholder management through docs and reviews at L8+ and ability to Influence without Authority, represented in, i) optimizing cross-organizational priorities; ii) resolving conflicts via win-win outcomes; and iii) escalating timely and decisively to maximize business results.

  • List these exact terms on your resume: Program Management, Stakeholder Management, Profit Optimization, and Strategy. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
