AI in this role
UI/UX Designer sought in Singapore to conduct user research, create wireframes and interactive prototypes in Figma, and manage design systems.
Thales is a global technology leader trusted by governments, institutions, and enterprises to tackle their most demanding challenges. From quantum applications and artificial intelligence to cybersecurity and 6G innovation, our solutions empower critical decisions rooted in human intelligence. Operating at the forefront of aerospace and space, cybersecurity and digital identity, we’re driven by a mission to build a future we can all trust.
In Singapore, Thales has been a trusted partner since 1973, originally focused on aerospace activities in the Asia-Pacific region. With 2,000 employees across three local sites, we deliver cutting-edge solutions across aerospace (including air traffic management), defence and security, and digital identity and cybersecurity sectors. Together, we’re shaping the future by enabling customers to make pivotal decisions that safeguard communities and power progress.Responsibilities:
UX requirements elicitation
· Take part in, and run, UX elicitation activities with operational users and the customer: observation of controller workflows, interviews, workshops and task analysis.
· Turn findings into user profiles, user journeys, task flows and scenarios that the team can design and test against.
· Write clear, verifiable UX requirements and acceptance criteria (for example task time, error tolerance, alerting and accessibility), and keep them traced in the programme's requirements tool.
· Work with systems engineers and human factors specialists so that HMI requirements and safety considerations are reflected in the design.
Design, modelling and prototyping in Figma
· Produce wireframes, high-fidelity screens and interactive prototypes in Figma that model realistic operational scenarios, including normal, degraded and emergency modes.
· Follow the team's Figma practices for file structure, naming, components, variables and versioning, and prepare clear handoff for developers through Dev Mode and interaction specifications.
· Use prototypes to test concepts with users before they are built.
Design system
· Design consistently with the solution's design system, using its foundations, components and patterns.
· Propose and build new components and patterns through the design system's contribution process, including documentation, states and accessibility considerations.
· Check with front-end developers that built components match the Figma source.
Agile and SAFe delivery
· Work as a member of agile teams within a SAFe Agile Release Train: contribute to PI Planning, estimate UX Stories, and attend team events such as refinement, planning, reviews and retrospectives.
· Keep design work ready ahead of development, and review built features against the design before acceptance.
· Demonstrate UX work at iteration reviews and System Demos.
Validation and project delivery
· Plan and run usability tests and heuristic reviews, record findings, and follow them through to design changes.
· Deliver assigned UX work packages to schedule and quality, raise risks early, and contribute UX inputs to design reviews and customer HMI reviews.
· Follow Thales processes and practices and contribute to their improvement.
Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in interaction design, human-computer interaction, human factors, industrial or visual design, computer science or a related discipline.
- A portfolio is required. It should show the problem, the research, the design decisions and the outcome, not only final screens.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Typically 3–6 years of UX/UI design experience on software products or systems.
- Strong, hands-on Figma skills: components and variants, auto layout, variables, interactive prototyping, shared libraries and developer handoff.
- Experience eliciting UX requirements with users and stakeholders through interviews, observation or workshops, and turning them into requirements and design artefacts.
- Has designed with and contributed to a design system.
- Has worked in agile teams, and in a SAFe (or similar scaled agile) environment.
- Project delivery experience: has delivered UX work to a defined scope, schedule and customer review or acceptance.
- Experience running usability tests and improving designs based on the results.
- Clear communication of design decisions to engineers and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Good communication skills in English.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Experience designing for complex, data-dense or mission-critical systems, such as air traffic management, aviation, defence, control rooms, transport or healthcare.
- Knowledge of accessibility (e.g. WCAG 2.2) and of human-centred design standards (e.g. ISO 9241-210).
- Experience with requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS, Polarion, Jama Connect).
- Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, a component framework) and design tokens.
- SAFe for Teams certification.
Essential / Desirable Traits
· User-focused, curious, and makes decisions on evidence
· Open to feedback on design work
· Possesses learning agility, flexibility and pro-activity
· Comfortable with agile teamwork and user engagement
