Internship: Automation of Measurement Uncertainty Calculation for Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) Measurement Chains
The ATR Flight Test Department relies on an onboard Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) system used to acquire and analyze thousands of parameters required for aircraft development, certification, and continuous improvement.
To ensure the quality and reliability of data collected during flight test campaigns, it is essential to assess the uncertainty associated with each measurement chain. This analysis must consider all elements of the measurement chain, including sensors, signal conditioning units, data acquisition modules, wiring, and any data processing applied throughout the acquisition process.
Today, these calculations are performed partially manually and require the collection of information from multiple sources. The objective of this internship is to develop a methodology and a software tool capable of automating both the uncertainty calculation process and the generation of the associated reports.
As part of this internship, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Conduct a state-of-the-art review of uncertainty calculation methods applied to aerospace measurement systems.
- Analyze the various components that make up FTI measurement chains and identify the associated sources of uncertainty.
- Define a standardized methodology for automatically calculating the overall uncertainty of a measurement chain.
- Develop a tool to automate uncertainty calculations (using Python, MATLAB, or another suitable environment).
- Validate the obtained results through several representative application cases.
- Automate the generation of uncertainty analysis reports.
- Document the proposed solution and provide recommendations for its integration into the Flight Test Department’s processes.
This internship is designed for you
- Currently in the 2nd or 3rd year of an Engineering Degree (Master’s level, Bac+4/Bac+5) with a specialization in instrumentation, physical measurements, electronics, aerospace engineering, or data processing;
- Knowledge of metrology, instrumentation, and/or data analysis;
- Software development skills, with Python experience strongly preferred;
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems or testing environments would be considered an asset;
- Personal qualities: autonomy, rigor, analytical mindset, and technical curiosity;
- Languages: French and English.

Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: Flight Test, Automation, Measurement Uncertainty, Aerospace Engineering, and Data Analysis. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
