AI in this role
Intern will improve dynamic test selection tools using Python to optimize automated software testing workflows.
Introduction
The Pipeline Team within the IT R&D Development Environment department supports more than 5,000 software developers by providing reliable development workflows, automation, and testing solutions. The team maintains a broad range of repositories and automation processes that help developers validate and build software efficiently. As software systems continue to grow in complexity, selecting the right automated tests becomes increasingly important. During this internship, you will help improve a dynamic test selection solution that reduces manual effort, increases testing efficiency, and provides greater transparency in software validation processes. You will contribute directly to improving the development experience for a large engineering community within ASML.
Your assignment
Within software development, automated tests are used to validate code changes before they are integrated into larger systems. Today, many test selections are based on manually maintained test lists. This internship focuses on validating and improving a dynamic test selection approach that automatically identifies relevant tests based on software changes. You will work closely with developers to evaluate, improve, and visualize the selection logic.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Extend and improve existing source-to-test matching functionality using Python.
- Validate the accuracy of dynamically selected tests against actual code changes.
- Compare dynamic test selection results with manually maintained test sets.
- Analyze strengths and limitations of dynamic versus static test selection approaches.
- Gather developer feedback and translate insights into selection improvements.
- Integrate and evaluate the solution within continuous integration pipeline scenarios.
- Develop clear visualizations that explain test selections and source-test relationships.
This is a bachelor or master internship for minimum 5 months, minimum 4 days per week (2-3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of February 2027.
Your profile
To be suitable for the internship, you:
- Are enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field.

- Have knowledge of software engineering principles and automated testing practices.
- Are proactive, analytical, and comfortable working independently.
- Communicate clearly in English and enjoy collaborating with different stakeholders.
- Have an interest in software testing, optimization, and continuous improvement.
- Enjoy exploring new ideas and developing practical solutions to technical challenges.
