Embedded Software Engineer

Job Description:

INTRODUCTION:

An opportunity for an Embedded Software Engineer – Airborne Connectivity has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space, Getafe (Madrid).

The selected candidate will join the Airborne Connectivity Team, part of the Engineering function at Airbus Defence and Space.

The team is responsible for designing and developing hardware and software solutions that provide advanced connectivity and communication capabilities for military airborne platforms, including Eurofighter, C295, MRTT, SIRTAP and Eurodrone, as well as Secure Communications programmes.

Working in a multidisciplinary and highly skilled environment, the jobholder will contribute to the development of next-generation, high-integrity airborne real-time systems, supporting innovation in smart connectivity, distributed networking and artificial intelligence.

The role offers the opportunity to participate in the complete embedded software development lifecycle, from requirements definition and software architecture to verification, testing and implementation on target systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The main tasks of the jobholder will be:

• Design and develop embedded real-time software solutions, contributing to software architecture, low-level design and implementation in accordance with applicable software development standards.
• Define, analyse and manage software requirements, ensuring traceability, consistency and alignment with system specifications and programme objectives.
• Perform software coding, integration and verification activities, including testing, configuration management, documentation, change management and support to software quality assurance processes.
• Collaborate with product managers, programme managers, system engineers and validation teams to ensure the successful development, integration and delivery of high-quality software solutions.
• Contribute to project planning and technical decision-making, supporting the definition of project scope, development activities and delivery milestones while ensuring compliance with quality and schedule objectives.
• Promote innovation and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance software development processes, tools and technologies within the department.

• Education: University degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience: At least 3 years of professional experience in real-time and/or embedded software development, including software requirements definition, implementation and verification activities.
• Soft skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, proactive mindset and good communication skills. Ability to balance different perspectives regarding products, projects and processes.
• Languages: Fluent level of English and Spanish.
• Technical knowledge: Strong knowledge of C/C++ and/or Ada programming languages, low-level software development, software requirements engineering and software verification methodologies.
• Valuable / Nice to have: Knowledge of software airworthiness certification standards (DO-178C, EFA Standards), cybersecurity concepts and accreditation processes (Common Criteria). Experience with system and software design tools (SysML, UML), integrated development environments (GPS, AdaMulti, Eclipse) and verification tools (VectorCAST, AdaTest95) will be valued.
• Other requirements: Eligibility to obtain NATO/National security clearance, compliance with applicable national and US export control regulations, and availability for occasional national and international travel.
