AI in this role
Lead and grow high-performing infrastructure engineering teams building privacy-focused developer APIs and crypto-rail tools.
Who we are
About Privy
Our mission is to make privacy and user ownership the default online. To do so, we build simple, flexible APIs and tools for developers that make it easy to build new products on crypto rails.
Privy owns the abstractions and infrastructure layer above wallets, integrating across chains, third-party providers, and Stripe products like Treasury and Link. We get to solve hard technical problems while leveraging Stripe's distribution to reach customers like Ramp, Klarna, Deel, Kraken, Hyperliquid, and Fomo — powering experiences for both mainstream users and crypto natives.
About the team
Engineering at Privy is distinguished by:
- High urgency—Shipping very small iterations, very fast, to learn very quickly.
- Product taste—Our customers are developers, and to build effective products for them requires technical knowledge —you will often be "the PM".
- Security mindset—A great portion of our product is trust. While we have a dedicated security team, every engineer brings security to their designs from the start.
In practice, we use boring technology like Node, React, and AWS so we can focus our engineering energy entirely on pushing the boundaries of Privy's core product, e.g. through hardware enclaves, multi-region low-latency APIs, and blockchain abstractions that are accessible to mainstream developers.
As an Engineering Manager at Privy, you will lead, grow, and shape high-performing engineering teams that make a massive impact on our product and industry. Your North Star is to enable and drive towards the success of Privy’s business overall.
As the Engineering Manager of your team, the buck stops with you: you are the owner of your team’s ultimate impact on Privy’s product and business. We believe that excellence in management is why our team loves working at Privy. Incredible managers are the core driver behind Privy’s long-term success: they are force multipliers, performance coaches, culture-carriers. They build the scaffolding that supports the team and each individual’s greatest impact. They shape Privy to be the place where each person gets to do the very best work of their careers.
We wake up every day driven to show up for our team. We shape roles around the unique strengths of every person and we are deeply grateful for the time we spend together building something greater than ourselves.
Infrastructure at Privy is fundamentally a product. With both internal engineers (and increasingly non-engineers) as direct consumers of infra platforms, as well as external product offerings, it is essential that the infra team creates powerful abstractions, educates and grows the Privy team on shipping ever-better software, and operates deeply efficient tooling to be the lever arm for which Privy moves the world.
What you’ll do
- Own long-term team outcomes and success of Privy’s product and business
- Drive the future vision of infrastructure of Privy alongside talented infrastructure engineers, across complex, cutting edge technology like secure enclaves (TEEs) and one-click Bring Your Own Cloud deployments, with performance and high scale as a default.
- Hold the team accountable to excellence in quality, throughput, and performance
- Leading active infrastructure work across the breadth of the company, from service definition, to reliability engineering, to developer tooling, and more
- Ensure the team is working on the right scope of work and projects, align decisions with business impact, and build interfaces with other parts of the org
- Fill gaps as a player-coach; review PRs, write and review design docs, investigate incidents – stay close to the metal and reinforce our builder culture
- Coach engineers towards growth and their career goals
- Build a supportive, fun, motivating, celebratory team culture so that the team wins every week
Who You Are
- Deep ownership and a high-level perspective on driving overall business impact
- Performance-oriented mindset, with a high bar for quality and excellence
- Technical excellence to be able to independently evaluate quality and technical feedback
- High emotional maturity, insightfulness, and care
- Strong past experience as a manager and leader – excellent management takes reps
- Experience with any of the following a plus:
- Designing and operating systems supporting hundreds of millions of users
- Secure enclave platforms, like AWS Nitro Enclaves
- Observability, incident response, capacity planning, performance tuning, and infrastructure automation (IaC, CI/CD for infra)
- Background in building low-latency, high-throughput systems for trading or payment processing
- Any blend of public cloud/BYOC architectures
