What does the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Team do?
We are the team that transforms aircraft design into a flying reality. Through close collaborative-development with aircraft design and other engineering disciplines, Manufacturing Engineering “ME” ensures the manufacturing feasibility OTOCOQ of the new products. We are the link to our internal production departments and external suppliers, enabling the manufacturing of parts, assembly, integration, and testing (“MAIT” system) of new aircraft.
We are currently scaling the entire Industrial Team. This position is one of several key roles we are opening; we encourage you to explore our other vacancies to find the best match for your expertise.
The primary challenge lies in the accelerated development timeline leading to the maiden flight. This requires a team of agile engineers who thrive in a dynamic environment and can expertly manage design evolutions alongside active manufacturing processes.
Mission of Extended Enterprise:
- Management of industrial footprint outside Airbus own walls – parts/subparts assembly suppliers, risk-sharing partners and components subcontractors (composites, metallics, harnessing, etc) that are part of the program manufacturing European supplier network
- Conduct supplier readiness / industrial capability assessments. Evaluation whether the supplier has the technical knowledge, process, industrial means and capacity to meet product technical requirements, rate and quality according to contractual commitment
- Support make-buy strategy, contribute to cost assessments and support trade-off studies (weight vs. cost vs. production rate) to keep cost aligned with program targets
- Capture knowledge and lessons learned about supplier/partner manufacturing technologies, material and processes, feeding them back into future co-design trade-offs and make-buy decisions
- Identify and manage industrial supply chain risk: critical suppliers, long-lead time items, single source dependencies and capacity bottlenecks, defining mitigation plans
- Translate design and industrial requirements into specifications suppliers can execute. Aligned with the industrial architecture baseline, Manufacturing Engineering specialists and validating supplier processes.
- Lead technical and contractual coordination with partners, including capacity, quality and delivery commitments. Close collaboration with Procurement/Legal departments on supplier selection, qualification and performance management
- Support onboarding of new suppliers/partners as the program scales from prototype to rate production, including capacity ramp-up planning
- Ensure all supplier/partner manufacturing processes, tooling and work instructions comply with applicable Airbus Standards, airworthiness requirements and Health and Safety regulations
- Participate in technology and innovation projects (R&T/ R&D) to close program technology gaps or improve time and cost. Advancing in the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) of relevant processes and materials where supplier-developed. These includes collaboration with non-traditional suppliers and technology centres
