Context:
As new programmes such as an neu fighter Aircraft and Ravenstorm arise, there is a need to develop not just the actual aircraft, but also the industrial systems to build them, at first as prototypes and later in series. This industrial development effort is conducted in parallel to aircraft development and requires close cooperation between Engineering organizations tasked with the development of the product on the one hand, and industrial disciplines that develop a manufacturing capability on the other.
What does the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Team do?
We are the team that transforms aircraft design into a flying reality. Through close collaborative-development with aircraft design and other engineering disciplines, Manufacturing Engineering “ME” ensures the manufacturing feasibility OTOCOQ of the new products. We are the link to our internal production departments and external suppliers, enabling the manufacturing of parts, assembly, integration, and testing (“MAIT” system) of new aircraft.
Mission of the Industrial Architect:
- Analyse aircraft designs as they are being developed as well as the underlying development logic. Plan and steer the technical development of the industrial system alongside product development.
- Drive the execution of an industrial development logic that uses Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL). Progress through the development of manufacturing technologies, production of samples, construction of mock-ups and prototypes up to series production.
- Coordinate industrial disciplines – Detail Part Manufacturing, Assembly, Installations, Test and Jigs & Tools to determine a reliable way of physically implementing a digital aircraft design. The target is to build up a real production capability that meets defined performance targets (e.g. production rate) and adheres to given constraints (e.g. schedule and cost).
- Bring your insights to the aircraft: support design decisions by showing their impact on production, in order to strike the best trade-off between performance and cost.
- Report technical progress to Industrial Management.
Required Skills:
1. Educational Background:
- University degree in Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field
2. Technical Expertise:
- understanding of aerospace design and manufacturing ecosystem from suppliers over customers to authorities
- good cross-sectional understanding of aircraft design disciplines from airframe to systems, and their ways of working
- good cross-sectional understanding of manufacturing disciplines (MAIT) from manufacturing of composite parts to testing aircraft functions as the last step of production
- proven track-record in setting up, executing and pacing large-scale technical development projects that follow development standards and utilize project management techniques
- good cross-sectional understanding of development tools, e.g. Config Systems, Doors, Catia, Delmia
3. Communication:
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, to interact with various stakeholders
- Fluent in German would be advantageous
4. Innovation and Problem-Solving:
- Creative approach to solving complex industrial challenges
- Ability to work in a changing and not entirely pre-planned environment. Able to make assumptions and start working even on incomplete sets of requirements.
- Ability to propose and implement innovative solutions in manufacturing processes
5. Adaptability and Continuous Learning:
- Openness to emerging technologies and manufacturing methodologies
- Commitment to continuous professional development in a rapidly evolving field
- Probably you are not a perfect match to the long list of skills above… but you bring the enthusiasm to learn them.
Join the Manufacturing Team… we are waiting for you to build it!
This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.
