ABOUT THE ROLE
Carry out rubber lay-up operations on solid rocket motor components under direct supervision, applying insulation materials to prepared surfaces in accordance with step-by-step work instructions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Apply rubber and elastomeric insulation sheet to motor case components under the direction of a supervisor or senior technician, following step-by-step work instructions and lay-up sequence sheets.
Assist in surface preparation tasks — wiping down, masking, and supporting primer application — as directed, ensuring the work area and component surfaces are clean and ready prior to lay-up.
Cut rubber and insulation sheet to template dimensions using hand tools and cutting guides; handle and position plies carefully to avoid contamination, tears, or dimensional error.
Roll, press, and consolidate applied rubber plies to remove air entrapment and achieve full contact with the substrate, using approved hand rollers and consolidation tools as instructed.
Assist the Thermal Insulation Technician during curing operations — loading components into ovens or press tools, retrieving cured parts, and maintaining cure log sheets under supervision.
Carry out basic post-lay-up visual checks for obvious surface defects, incomplete coverage, or lifted edges; report any concerns to the supervisor or technician before the component proceeds
Handle, retrieve, and return rubber and insulation materials in accordance with storage instructions, shelf-life labels, and material safety requirements; report damaged or out-of-date stock immediately
Maintain a clean, tidy, and hazard-free lay-up workstation; follow all HSE rules including PPE requirements for chemical handling and report any spills, near-misses, or unsafe conditions without delay
