[What you will be working on]
Automated Workflow (formerly known as Opus) is an AI automation builder that lets any public officer automate agentic workflows, build business rules, integrate to whole-of-government tools and orchestrate agents with compliance built in. We are scaling fast, and need someone to help us get this into the hands of every agency that needs it.
You're responsible for leading the product strategy and execution of our AI automation platform. You define the product vision, align cross-functional teams around long-term goals, and use data to drive prioritisation and decision-making. You identify opportunities, validate ideas through research and experimentation, and ensure we ship the right things at the right speed — balancing quality with urgency.
-
Lead product strategy and vision for complex or ambiguous problem spaces, translating user needs and business goals into a coherent product roadmap
-
Critically analyse data and define success metrics to drive prioritisation — leveraging data to validate or kill ideas before development, and making recommendations grounded in evidence
-
Plan and evaluate features informed by user research, customer feedback, market research, competitor review, technology trends and internal feedback loops
-
Identify and mitigate risks from both technical and market perspectives, anticipating potential challenges at the project level
-
Foster a culture of speed, simplicity and agility — recognising the tradeoffs between shipping fast and accumulating technical debt
-
Take full ownership of broad, ambiguously-scoped projects — translating team goals into actionable plans, prioritising tasks, and driving workstreams to successful outcomes
-
Proactively identify opportunities, synthesise data into clear recommendations, and connect analyses to organisational impact
[What we are looking for]
- Proven experience as a Product Manager with a track record of leading complex technology products or digital platforms.
-
Strong product sense — able to connect user problems, business value and technical feasibility into clear product decisions
-
Data-driven decision makers — comfortable defining metrics, running experiments, and killing ideas that don't work
-
Clear communicators — both in writing and verbally, aligning engineering, design and leadership around a shared vision
-
User-obsessed — grounding decisions in research, feedback and real-world usage rather than assumptions
-
Comfortable with ambiguity — thriving in complex spaces where the right answer isn't obvious and the scope isn't handed to you
-
Committed to serving the public good
-
Comfortable with AI and automation tools — you'll be shaping a product in this space
-
Startup mindset — scrappy, takes initiative, builds before being asked. We're a small team and you'll wear multiple hats
-
Familiar with WOG tools and the public sector technology landscape

Questions you could be asked
- How do you decide when an AI agent can act on its own versus asking for approval first?
- Tell me about a workflow you automated with AI tools, end to end.
- Describe a typical day in a role like this one: which parts run through AI directly?
- If you removed AI from this role, what would be left, and how do you decide what still needs a human?
Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: AI agents and AI Automation. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
- Show where AI is part of your daily process, not a one-off project. This role expects it to be a running habit.
