PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced reporter based in Tunisia to cover Tunisia and the wider North Africa region across a range of BBC output.
You will find, report and explain the stories that matter most to audiences across North Africa. You will cover breaking news, develop original stories and provide clear analysis of important events and trends.
This role requires excellent knowledge of North Africa, a strong network of contacts and a good understanding of how news reaches audiences across digital platforms.

You will work as part of a collaborative international newsroom, partnering with colleagues across the wider BBC. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
• Research, propose, write, report and edit engaging news reports and analytical pieces, ensuring high journalistic standards and full compliance with BBC editorial guidelines.
• Respond quickly to breaking news, delivering accurate, timely on-the-spot reporting and advising editors on appropriate coverage where required.
• Create compelling journalism across multiple formats and platforms, with a particular focus on social media to reach and engage audiences effectively.
• Generate a consistent flow of strong and realistic story and coverage ideas, contributing to the news diary and collaborating with reporters and producers across the field and region.
• Provide informed analysis, advice and briefings on news developments, agency and newspaper stories, government policy and events relevant to BBC audiences.
• Gather material and deliver specialist, audience-focused coverage and analysis, working to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
• Maintain clear and regular communication with editors and colleagues throughout assignments, while carrying out all duties in accordance with BBC health and safety policies.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
• Excellent understanding and comprehensive knowledge of the north Africa region, including its political, economic, social and cultural landscape.
• Experience of live broadcasting including live breaking news with a good on-screen presence, self-assured microphone voice with strong communication skills and experience using a range of digital and multimedia tools.
• Excellent command of written and spoken Arabic and English, with the ability to report, write and broadcast confidently in both languages.
• Demonstrates balanced and impartial judgement. Makes appropriate editorial decisions, taking account of conflicting views where necessary.
• Willing and able to travel across the region, including to challenging and high-risk environments when required.
• Strong understanding of how to produce content that performs across digital platforms, and proven ability to develop original stories and exclusive reporting.
• Proven experience of successfully working independently as well as in a team.
• Ability to develop and pitch strong story ideas and contribute actively to editorial planning and coverage discussions.
• Demonstrates a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understands how individual differences can benefit the BBC.
