Job Description:
Reuters is seeking a Senior Polling Analyst to help lead its global economic and financial-markets polling operation. This role turns complex survey data, market expectations and macroeconomic developments into timely, authoritative insights that inform Reuters journalism and support LSEG financial data clients, market participants and policymakers.
Working as part of Reuters' global polling team, you will lead and improve polls across approximately 50 key economies, covering central-bank policy, interest rates, inflation, growth, labour markets, currencies, bond yields and equities. You will collaborate with polling correspondents, editors and analysts across regions and time zones, while helping maintain the accuracy, independence and methodological rigour that underpin Reuters polls.
Relocation Support / Travel: Relocation support may be available in accordance with company policy. No travel is required for the role, but it involves working rotational shifts or hours aligned with global market and news cycles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end Reuters polls covering macroeconomic indicators, central-bank policy and financial markets, from planning survey schedules and questions through data collection, validation, analysis and publication.
- Analyse large current and historical datasets to identify shifts in economist and market expectations, forecast trends, outliers, consensus changes and longer-term developments across major economies.
- Deliver clear, timely and actionable findings for Reuters news stories, market alerts, graphics and broader economic and financial-market coverage.
- Use spreadsheets, Python and AI-enabled analytical workflows to improve data processing, automation, quality assurance, survey analysis and presentation of poll results.
- Monitor market-moving developments—including economic releases, central-bank decisions and geopolitical or financial events—to identify timely polling opportunities and support editorial priorities.
- Strengthen poll methodology and data quality by refining survey design, contributor management, validation processes and data-management practices, while upholding Reuters standards for accuracy, impartiality, sourcing and ethics.
- Build and maintain relationships with economists, strategists and analysts, helping to broaden and diversify Reuters' poll contributor panels; provide quality control, project leadership and informal mentoring to junior colleagues where appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, statistics, data science, business or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- At least two years of relevant experience in polling, financial journalism, economic research, market analysis, data analysis or a related field, ideally involving macroeconomic or financial-market data.
- Strong working knowledge of macroeconomics, financial markets and central-bank policy, including interest rates, inflation, growth, labour-market indicators, currencies, bond markets and equities.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse complex and large datasets, identify patterns and anomalies, and translate findings into accurate, relevant and concise insights.
- Advanced proficiency in spreadsheet-based analysis and structured-data management.
- Working proficiency in Python or a comparable programming language for data analysis, automation and data-quality checks, including the ability to understand, adapt and use existing code.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work effectively across international teams and time zones, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced news and markets environment.
Core Competencies
- Analytical judgement: Interprets complex economic, market and polling data accurately; distinguishes meaningful changes from noise or anomalies.
- Accuracy and methodological rigour: Applies careful validation, strong attention to detail and sound judgement to protect data quality and editorial integrity.
- Clear communication: Explains technical findings in concise, accessible language for journalists, financial professionals and other audiences.
- Collaboration: Builds productive relationships with contributors, correspondents, editors and colleagues across functions, regions and time zones.
- Ownership and adaptability: Takes initiative, manages multiple deadlines and responds effectively to fast-moving market and news developments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience conducting, designing or managing surveys, polls or consensus forecasts involving economists, strategists, analysts or other expert contributors.
- Experience in financial journalism, a newsroom, an economic-research institution, a central bank, a financial-services firm or a market-data provider.
- Experience using Python data-analysis libraries and workflows for automation, data validation and visualization.
- Familiarity with Reuters Editorial Handbook principles, or demonstrated commitment to impartiality, transparency, ethical data practices and editorial independence.
