Software Development Manager, AWS DynamoDB

Are you passionate about building resilient networking systems at massive scale? The DynamoDB Networking Technologies team is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead shaping how customer traffic reaches DynamoDb. In this role, you'll drive next generation of software that manages endpoint routing, traffic distribution, and private connectivity for one of AWS's most critical services. You'll partner with teams across DynamoDB and the broader AWS networking organization to deliver solutions that keep customer traffic flowing reliably under all conditions. You'll be accountable for the operational health of the systems your team owns, ensuring high availability and correctness of traffic shaping decisions and executing them quickly. You'll lead ambitious initiatives to evolve routing capabilities as DynamoDB's continues to grow. We own the networking foundation that underpins every DynamoDB request. Our mission is to make communicating with DynamoDb invisible to customers: traffic arrives at the right place, at predicably low latency, every time. When our systems work well, millions of customers never think about how they connect. The team operates at the intersection of distributed systems & network engineering. We're solving hard problems in fault tolerance, automated remediation, and traffic management at a scale few teams encounter. Key job responsibilities
- Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team focused on networking control plane systems that manage endpoint routing, traffic distribution, and private connectivity for DynamoDB
- Define team charter, vision, and roadmaps to improve system resilience and evolve routing capabilities as DynamoDB's architecture grows
- Partner with teams across DynamoDB and the broader AWS networking organization to align on requirements and deliver solutions that keep customer traffic flowing reliably under all conditions
- Drive architectural decisions and technical strategy for traffic management, endpoint routing, and network infrastructure at global scale
- Own operational excellence for the team's systems, ensuring high availability and low latency scaling
- Establish mechanisms to scale team operations while maintaining end-to-end ownership of delivered software systems

A day in the life
You'll start your day reviewing operational metrics and team progress, then dive into technical discussions with engineers about new routing. Throughout the day, you'll collaborate with partner teams to understand their requirements, guide roadmap prioritization decisions, and mentor your engineers on complex challenges. You'll balance hands-on technical guidance with strategic planning, ensuring your team delivers impactful solutions.

Basic qualifications

- 7+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
- 5+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using distributed programming experience
- 1+ years of engineering team management experience
- 1+ years of providing technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Preferred qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience in managing and troublshooting network, or experience in Network protocols like DNS/DHCP/TCP

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
