Mid-Senior levelJob Description:
At Cloudera, we empower people to transform complex data into clear and actionable insights. With as much data under management as the hyperscalers, we're the preferred data partner for the top companies in almost every industry. Powered by the relentless innovation of the open source community, Cloudera advances digital transformation for the world’s largest enterprises.
The Cloudera IT team is looking for a talented, motivated, and passionate Sr. Manager, Infrastructure Engineering to join our Technical Operations organization. In this role, you’ll lead a multidisciplinary team of Senior Systems Engineers, Senior Platform Operations Engineers, and DevOps Engineers responsible for the availability, performance, security, scalability, and lifecycle management of a large on-premises private-cloud environment and its supporting services.
This leader owns the team’s operational and engineering outcomes, including 24x7 production support, major-incident leadership, service health, capacity and lifecycle planning, infrastructure automation, technical-debt reduction, and continual service improvement. The role establishes clear priorities and operating mechanisms that enable senior engineers to execute effectively while maintaining appropriate standards for change, risk, documentation, security, and reliability.
The Senior Manager also serves as the primary program coordinator for infrastructure initiatives that span Networking, Cloud Operations, Service Desk, Information Security, Software Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, and Platform Engineering. The role manages interdependencies, risks, schedules, decisions, stakeholder communication, and delivery accountability across teams that may have different priorities and operating models.
As a Sr. Manager, Infrastructure Engineering you will:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of senior infrastructure, platform operations, and DevOps engineers.
- Establish team priorities, ownership, performance expectations, career-development plans, and sustainable on-call practices.
- Own the availability, performance, capacity, security, and lifecycle of the private-cloud environment and its supporting compute, storage, container, automation, monitoring, and recovery services.
- Oversee 24x7 production operations, major-incident response, escalation, stakeholder communication, post-incident reviews, and corrective actions.
- Lead cross-functional infrastructure programs involving Networking, Cloud Operations, Service Desk, Information Security, Software Engineering, SRE, Platform Engineering, and external vendors.
- Develop integrated project plans, manage dependencies and risks, resolve resource conflicts, and communicate status and decisions to technical and executive stakeholders.
- Monitor ServiceNow incident, request, problem, and change queues; establish processes for assignment, prioritization, escalation, aging, and closure quality.
- Build dashboards, review cadences, and continual-improvement plans that improve SLA compliance, backlog health, response times, and service quality.
- Advance infrastructure-as-code, automation, configuration standards, peer review, testing, and repeatable deployment practices.
- Direct capacity planning, platform upgrades, vulnerability remediation, disaster-recovery readiness, technical-debt reduction, and hardware and software lifecycle planning.
- Partner with engineering and architecture leaders to define platform roadmaps, operational-readiness requirements, support models, and service-level objectives.
- Use operational, delivery, capacity, and risk data to prioritize investments and improve service reliability.
What You'll Bring (Required Qualifications):
- Significant experience leading infrastructure engineering, platform operations, cloud operations, DevOps, or site-reliability teams in a large production environment.
- Demonstrated success managing and developing senior technical professionals, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and workforce planning.
- Experience owning business-critical services, 24x7 support functions, on-call operations, and major-incident response.
- Strong program-management skills with experience coordinating multiple interdependent initiatives across technical and business teams.
- Experience implementing operational processes for incident, request, problem, change, service-level, and continual-improvement management.
- Experience using ServiceNow or a comparable enterprise ITSM platform to manage queues, workflows, dashboards, SLAs, and operational reporting.
- Working knowledge of Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack or comparable private-cloud technologies, networking, storage, observability, infrastructure as code, and Terraform.
- Ability to evaluate technical architecture, operational risk, capacity, implementation plans, and engineering tradeoffs without acting as the team’s primary hands-on engineer.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical issues, risk, and delivery status to engineers and executives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience operating OpenStack and Kubernetes platforms at enterprise scale.
- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, including hybrid- and multi-cloud operating models.
- Experience with Terraform, configuration-management tools, CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, policy as code, and automated infrastructure testing.
- Experience defining service-level indicators, service-level objectives, operational-level agreements, and reliability metrics.
- Experience with capacity forecasting, disaster-recovery testing, vulnerability management, infrastructure lifecycle planning, and vendor management.
- Familiarity with ITIL service-management practices and certifications such as ITIL, PMP, or PgMP.
- Relevant technical certifications in Kubernetes, OpenStack, Linux, Terraform, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
