THE ROLE

Our trading platform runs on high-performance servers distributed across datacenters and offices throughout the world- and these systems don't stop running once the markets close. We are looking for engineers who will blend hands-on technical execution with high-stakes risk management, ensuring the health and stability of our infrastructure during non-standard business hours. You'll be the primary point of accountability for deferred maintenance and triage that cannot be executed during peak weekday trading. You'll also serve as the front line for any production issues that surface in 24/7 markets, with escalations as needed. This is an ideal role for independent thinkers who are looking for more ownership and can manage real operational risk alongside a leaner (and growing) weekend team.

Schedule: Full-time, flexibility for 5 standard days (Thurs-Mon) or 4 longer days (Thurs-Sun)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze, diagnose, and resolve Linux based server issues.
  • Create, test, deploy, and maintain packages, batch files, and scripts for the OS environment.
  • Identify opportunities for optimization to reduce latency and increase efficiency.
  • Manage move, add, and change requests and configuration as needed.
  • Liaise with internal technology groups and vendors as necessary to deliver optimum solutions.
  • Assist in developing long-term infrastructure strategies and capacity planning to meet future platform infrastructure needs.

THE CANDIDATE

  • 1+ years background in Linux/Unix administration
  • Strong scripting ability (Python, Bash etc.).
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols and network topology (NFS, DHCP, IP, TCP, UDP, TFTP and NTP).
  • Knowledge of Kickstart, Ansible, Git.
  • Experience with Package Management

WHY VIRTU

  • The opportunity to make an impact in a highly visible role within the firm
  • A great place for upward and geographic mobility
  • Direct exposure to the decision makers and senior leaders on the business side
  • A company that’s investing a sizable amount in its technology department
  • Teams that are passionate about continually learning, improving, and raising the bar
  • A community that values hard work as well as work-life balance

After passing an initial resume screening, candidates will be sent an online Linux Systems test. We look forward to meeting you.

  • Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
