Controls System Technician

We are looking for a detail-oriented and hands-on Controls Systems Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automated control systems and instrumentation across our facility. Working closely with engineers and operations staff, you will play a critical role in keeping our processes running safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.

• Install, calibrate, and commission instrumentation and control system components including sensors, transmitters, valves, actuators, and controllers

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and associated field devices

• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical, pneumatic, and control system faults using schematics, ladder logic, and diagnostic tools

• Assist controls engineers with system upgrades, modifications, and startup activities

• Monitor and maintain SCADA/HMI systems, reporting anomalies and performing basic configuration changes as directed

• Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and technical manuals

• Document maintenance activities, equipment history, and calibration records in the CMMS

• Maintain instrument calibration records and ensure traceability to applicable standards

• Follow all safety procedures including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), arc flash, and confined space protocols

• Coordinate with operations to minimize process disruptions during maintenance windows

• Support reliability improvement initiatives and root cause analysis (RCA) efforts

• Associate's degree or technical diploma in Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, Electronics, or a related field — or equivalent military/vocational training

• 2+ years of hands-on experience in industrial instrumentation and controls maintenance

• Working knowledge of PLC systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and the ability to navigate and monitor ladder logic

• Experience with instrumentation calibration tools and procedures

• Solid understanding of 4-20mA loops, HART communication, and discrete wiring

• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, and loop sheets

• Familiarity with industrial safety practices including LOTO and electrical safety (NFPA 70E)

• ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) – Level I or II

• Experience with pneumatic and electro-pneumatic control valve maintenance

• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, EtherNet/IP)

• Experience using a CMMS (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, Infor)

• Knowledge of functional safety and safety instrumented systems (SIS)

• Experience in Oil & Gas / Manufacturing / Maritime

• Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in outdoor environments as needed

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

• May require shift work, on-call rotation, or overtime during shutdowns and emergencies
