Design and lead power-conversion hardware development for data center infrastructure at megawatt scale.

power-electronicshardware-designsilicon-carbidesimulation
Are you excited about designing power-conversion hardware that will operate at megawatt scale inside data center infrastructure? Amazon Web Services is looking for a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to lead the design of solid-state transformer (SST) conversion stages, with deep expertise in high-voltage silicon carbide (SiC) devices and isolated high-power converter topologies.

You will own the dual active bridge (DAB), CLLC, and series-resonant converter stage designs from bench prototype through megawatt-class deployment, including SiC device selection and qualification. You will tackle device paralleling, current sharing, switching-loss optimization, and thermal derating challenges while guiding risk reduction through simulation and prototype correlation. You will also mentor fellow power electronics engineers, lead design reviews, and contribute to patent and technology decisions that shape the future of data center power delivery.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead architecture decisions for DAB, CLLC, and series-resonant converter stages, defining power-stage topologies that scale from prototype to megawatt deployment while meeting efficiency, thermal, and serviceability targets.
- Select and qualify high-voltage SiC power devices, evaluating switching losses, body-diode behavior, dynamic on-resistance, device paralleling, current sharing, and thermal derating for high-current operation.
- Coordinate converter-stage interfaces with the medium-voltage front end, 800 VDC output bus, controls, magnetics, and cooling subsystems to ensure cohesive system performance.
- Drive technical risk reduction through simulation, prototype testing, and measurement correlation, leading design reviews that set engineering quality standards across the team.
- Mentor power electronics engineers, contribute to patents and publications, and support technology roadmap decisions that advance data center power infrastructure.

A day in the life
You will split your time between hands-on design work and cross-functional collaboration. In a typical morning you might run converter simulations, review SiC device characterization data, or correlate prototype bench measurements against your models. Afternoons often shift to design reviews with magnetics, controls, and thermal engineers, or working sessions with partner teams on system-level interface specifications. You will regularly present technical trade-off analyses to stakeholders, coach junior engineers through design challenges, and carve out time to explore new converter architectures or draft patent disclosures.

Adapt your resume

  • List these exact terms on your resume: Power Electronics, Hardware Design, Silicon Carbide, and Simulation. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
  • Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
