An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chief of Product Industrialisation to join the Manufacturing Engineering Industrialisation Team in Derby or Bristol. This is a Senior Leadership position reporting to the Head of Manufacturing Engineering – ET&S.
The Chief of Product Industrialisation is accountable for the design, development and industrialisation of the production systems required to deliver new and evolving products at the required rate, quality, cost and schedule.
The role translates product definition, programme requirements and demand into an integrated industrial solution — bringing together Industrial Engineering, manufacturing process design, production system architecture, factory design and layout, simulation, automation, material flow and industrial investment.
The role ensures that the product and its production system are developed concurrently, using analytical modelling and simulation to optimise and validate the industrial system before significant physical investment or rate commitment.
What you will be doing:
- Design safe, scalable production systems — Own the end-to-end industrial concept for new and evolving products, ensuring HSE compliance and optimising process sequence, takt, flow, capacity, labour, equipment and resilience to deliver rate, quality, cost and schedule.
- Engineer factories and technology for performance — Lead factory design, layout, material flow and infrastructure, integrating automation, robotics and advanced manufacturing technologies where they provide clear operational and economic value and enable future growth.
- Validate decisions through modelling and simulation — Use analytical models and simulation to test concepts, expose constraints and variability, validate capacity and resources, and provide a robust, traceable basis for industrial investment before physical implementation or rate commitment.
- Shape products and strengthen industrialisation capability — Develop products and production systems concurrently, influencing product definition to reduce industrial complexity and risk while deploying common methods, standards and tools and building enterprise Industrial Engineering capability.
Preferred qualifications:
- Professionally qualified Engineer, Metallurgist or Chemist (UK minimum BEng degree or another national equivalent)
Preferred requirements:
- Manufacturing leader with deep expertise in Industrial Engineering and production-system design, supported by strong experience in factory design, manufacturing systems, capacity and flow analysis, simulation, automation and major industrial investment
- Capable of moving comfortably between product architecture, manufacturing process, factory physics, manufacturing economics and be capable of translating those disciplines into enterprise-level industrial decisions.
- Experience of complex, highly regulated, manufacturing environments is important, but the individual should also bring strong understanding of high-rate production principles and how those principles can be intelligently applied to aerospace.
